Lincoln kidnapped?

During the battle for the heartland campaign Old honest Abe was kidnapped and then ransomed for 10,000 Confederate prisoners!
As the Union player, I think I should have had the final word on this deal.
Anyone else experience this ahistorical twist?

Hi!
I had seen the event on the game files, but never happened to me while playing.
I suspect it has small % of firing and you had bad luck.
I´m no expert on the ACW, but by googling a little i found this:
"Good Friday, April 14th 1865 at 10pm President Abraham Lincoln was attending “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s theatre, with his wife and two guests, but no bodyguard. Lincoln was shot in the back of the head at point blank range by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln died the next day, after never waking from the coma.
However, this wasn’t the initial plot. Originally Lincoln was to be kidnapped when he was attending a play named “still waters run deep” at Campbell Military Hospital. Booth had planned to kidnap Lincoln, hold him hostage to force the government to use their earlier policy of exchanging prisoners. He had got together a group of conspirators to assist him, who gathered in a restaurant near town in order to ambush the presidents ride home from the hospital. However, Lincoln had instead organised to attend a ceremony at the National Hotel that night. Booth’s plan was postponed, but after he attended a speech by President Lincoln outside the white house, Booth became furious at the prospect of Lincoln giving support for voting rights for black people. At this point, Booth changed his plan from a kidnap and hostage, to assassination; but not just of President Lincoln, but his Vice President and Secretary of State at the same time."
Probably this is the idea behind the event...
Regards!

I was aware of the original intent of Booth's plans, but I still think the Union player should be given the option to release 10,000 Confederates prisoners.
Frankly, had this actually happened during the Civil War, no such bargain would have been struck no matter how beloved Lincoln was; Booth's plan was insane, and AACW's release of 10,000 POWs for one man justifies this insanity.

I was not [:D]
The current AACW engine does not allow this kind of multiple option “decision” events.
This will be introduced in their new game, Wars in America (previously Birth of America 2) coming this summer.

I'm looking forward to WiA; I greatly enjoyed BoA, but wonder why I'm having issues w/the award-winning AACW considering that much more work went into this game than its predecessor.
Except for the Lincoln "kidnapping" -- Sec. of War Stanton would never agree to exchanging 1 Confederate for Lincoln much less 10,000 -- I would say AACW is more historical/accurate than FoF, but it's not as enjoyable to play as FoF/BoA; I trust AGEOD in not going to retool BoA/WiA to the point where it becomes "unplayable."
I've given good advice to Pocus in the past re BoA and its many patches, so pse feel free to pass this on to whomever in AGEOD needs to hear it.

Hi
I think it would be much better if you would express your opinions yourself.
Why don't you post on the AGEOD forums?? Thre are several threads regarding WIA and everybody's opinion are welcome. [:)]
In any case, if i understand you correctly, i think you will find WIA as playable as BoA. Only better, with more scenarios, bigger maps and nice refinements.
It depends of what each gamer likes and dislikes, but i agree with you that BoA/WIA is more easely playable that AACW: smaller scenarios, less rules, less units, less time consuming...
Still, i also find the big and detailed AACW game very interesting but certainly it needs more time and dedication.
Currently i'm enjoying AACW immensely. Even more than BoA, but for me the game is near my higher limit of time/complexity.
For example, i'm sure WITP is a wonderful game, but sadly i don't think i have the time and dedication needed to really enjoy that game. [:(]
Maybe something similar happens to you and AACW?
Regards!

I've posted on the AGEOD forums before and frankly was ignored; I though this odd since I was actually
asked to be a beta for BoA Gold, but as I have dial-up, I couldn't handle the file size of 500 plus MB.
I understand what you're saying re WitP as I play UV; in fact, I might compare/contrast BoA/AACW w/UV/WitP.
AACW is not harder to master than FoF or any other sim, it's just more challenging to manage on the campaign scale, probably on account of all the units and the much larger map.
Unfortunately, all the new AACW features make going back to BoA difficult, so I'm eagerly awaiting WiA.
