In a battle, it is hard to see which of the buttons that determine which factor type to lose has been selected.

Could the button that is selected be made clearer ?

Along with that, make it clear when the game auto-deselects it. There are occasions when one really does want to take a cavalry factor when one doesn't have to. But, if the game switches it right after the mandatory cav factor is lost, it gets missed.
 
I recommend changing either the size or the color of the button that's depressed. Currently, only the fake 3D edges of the button change (showing a "pressed" or "unpressed" condition). Size would be my first choice and color second. Or, even the color of the border.
