High Res tank skins

If you have a good qualtity graphics card and a powerful cpu you can give your tanks higher quality graphic skins. Many models come both 512x512 and 1024x1024 dds skin files. The 1024 x 1024 is usually not being used. Save the 512^2 skin under a different name and rename or copy the 1024^2 file to the old name.

This can get a little confusing if there are both default winter skins and summer skins in the model folder. The summer 512 would have to be saved and the summer 1024 file copied to that name. Then the winter/default files processed the same way.

This doesn't always increase the resolution as a few earliest models seem like the 1024 skins are just resized 512. But maybe I was only viewing them on my older computer.

If you make a typo and not correctly name the file the same as the old this will cause a CTD.[:-]

Uh, isn't that what the HI Res Texture Quality switch on the startup screen does?

No. I don't know what that is. But this is not systematic. Some models have the high res skins and some don't.

Does it work for now?

That has something to do with the way the engine renders detail. But the standard detail quality is from 512x512 skins. The engine can't make it as detailed as a 1024x1024 skin no matter what it does.
