Anybody still gonna play the regular version after AE comes out?

Hey all,

From looking at the supposed requirements for Admirals' Edition, my computer won't be able to run it. Unfortunately, a new, or even an upgraded computer isn't really in my financial plan in the near or even intermediate future.

Will anybody still be playing the version we currently have after AE comes out, or will I be all alone, with nobody to attempt PBEM's with, or discuss this version with?

People will stil play WITP stock, simply because they "PAYED GOOD MONEY FOR IT!".
Personally, I don't play WITP that much anymore, mostly because the AI is NO challenge and a PBEM takes to much of my limited spare time (girlfriend takes up a LOT of maintenance time [:'(][:'(]).

But as most people on this forum, I will buy AE once it is released (no matter how much it's going to cost me) simply to get even MORE depth/detail and better combat moddels into the game.

As far as the stock game goes, there will always be a small number of gamers that will either not buy AE, or will simply like the stock version better, so you will be able to run a PBEM game, just your choice of opponents will decrease over time...

Don't worry.

If you really want to have it, i'll buy it and ship it to Poland for you [;)]

I will play WITP on (at least a couple of months) because I doubt that AE will be already in a state I want to start a PBEM with it. I will wait a couple of months for the first patches and then I will start PBEMs.

Of course I will only play WITP on when AE comes out if my PBEM partners are willing to do that. If they bail out of my ongoing WITP PBEMs then I won´t play WIPT on of course.

AE is an expansion right? Not a stand-alone.

Well, since nobody knows what the price will be, how can you know if you can afford it?

Correct, you need WitP to play AE.

I'll probably play both for a time after AE comes out. I've got a couple of interesting PBEMs going on.

What he said: AE is a HUGE increase in complexity, and who knows how well it will work... it took a couple of years after WITP came out for it to be a relatively stable platform with a playable game.

i think predictions about everyone leaping to AE and stopping WITP (regular or current mods) are WAY premature.

It will happen. But slowly..As a former regular of UV I can attest the migration will happen. But not at first.
The first year to 18 months there are all the bugs to work out.

Exactly... it won't happen as soon as soon as AE is released... it will take months - years... and folks are still playing UV, iirc.

I have owned for WITP for two years now but still play the odd game of UV. As has been said it will be many months after its release before the major bugs are ironed out anyway.

A good rule of thumb is that, "if you have to ask how much it costs, you probably can't afford it..."

Sorry no disrespect intended, your comment just reminded me of that quote. [;)]

I wince every time I see someone post a comment that "I'll pay whatever the charge!" I can just see Matrix/2by3 licking their chops and jacking the price up another 5% every time such a claim is posted.
If we (as a group) had any sense, we'd have been pleading poverty since the day of AE's announcement. Given what fuel prices have been doing, we might have beaten the original price down by 25% by now. Guess we aren't too bright... [8|]

With regards to the original posting: we'll have to finish our PBEMs before we switch completely over to AE. That's going to take a few more years!

I can foresee a few Allied player that are at or past mid-1943 not wanted to stop their PBEMs to start AE. [:D]

WARNING - WiTP/AE could be habit forming - possibly resulting in poverty due to an inability to step away from the game. If you experience problems making it to work or communicating with your spouse/girlfriend then you might have been exposed to PBEM - a highly addictive environment that could cause you and your loved ones serious pain and suffering. If you feel you might have possibly contacted PBEM-itious then contact us at 1-800-THE-LAW2 and let our lawyers fight for you! You have rights and we will fight for you.
