question from a new member

Hello everybody,

I am interested in getting the game but i have a question i need to clarify first.

From what i saw, it seems that there is an option for getting reports from subordinate units at predefined time intervals.
If i am right, it is very realistic and adds to the "command feeling" i am looking for.

However, i do not understand something.
Suppose you see a friendly unit counter on your map which shows the location of the unit according to the last report received or according to some type of estimation if it is moving.
The true location of the same unit will be hidden from you, since you have not received the latest report.

If you want to give to this unit a new order for movement, you will have to assign some type of path, which is going to have a starting point. How do you do this without knowing the true location of the unit you are ordering to follow that path?

Pamak,

The reports you get update you on the status of a unit not the location. You know where your forces are at all times during the battle. Enemy locations pop up as LOS is established during a game turn. You bring up an interesting point about having some fog of war on your own forces. That is something we can add on to the list for the new games or really in an update in the new game engine (too far along for something like that now). I'll pass this idea on to Rob and we'll see what we can come up with.

Thanks for your interest in the game. Hopefully the answer doesn't sway your decision too much. [:D]

Thank you for your reply.

I think i am going to wait for the new release. Regarding my idea of friendly fog of war, i believe that it gives a totally different "command feeling" and i will be very happy to see it incorporated in military games. It is true though that it needs careful implementation. Depending on the situation, sometimes it is very realistic to not know exactly the location of units, other times it might be unrealistic.
