Vista?

My laptop recently died and I've just purchased a new one that comes with Vista as standard.

I was about to buy a copy of Windows XP in order to run WitP as I was under the impression that WitP wasn't compatible with Vista. However, I see that there are some threads here about users running WitP under Vista.

So, my simple question is: is WitP compatible with Vista?

Several people have reported loading problems with VISTA - once loaded it seems to do okay.

I recently bought a new computer with Vista. I reloaded from the original disk, applied patches and have had not a single problem.[;)]

As i say - SOME people have had problems, not all... apparently if you try putting it anywhere but in the default directory you can run into problems.

Also, one person on the other side in my 3x3 PBEM had severe problems with VISTA trying to unzip files to install CHS.

i think there have been other loading problems as well, but i don't recall all the details at the moment.

I've just installed WitP, CHS and AB's extended map and it all went smoothly. Thanks for all the replies.

just curious, since there are several versions of Vista, which one do you have rubisco?
rtrapasso is correct, some folks have encountered problems with vista.

A friend of mine had a very frustrating time installing certain game patches, not WitP though.

I have had no problems with the stock game but cant load the files for CHS. I dont know if this has been addressed yet. If it has been addressed please point me in the right direction.

I use Vista and I also installed CHS 160, can you write the error message?

VISTA will pretty much block any attempts to install to anywhere but the default location... are you trying to put it somewhere else? If so, this could be your problem.

The stock game loads and runs just fine now thanks to your help [&o]. I run CHS on XP but when i try to load the maps in Vista I fail [&:]. I have the Home Premium variety of Vista. I do the manual install (the auto load utility doesnt work in Vista) and where I fail is the ModSelect Utility. It does not make backups nor does it give me the option I have in XP to load the 5 maps and art. Frustrating because the computer with XP is old and slow (just like me).

i understand that you have to do a MANUAL install for CHS under VISTA... iirc, there are instructions in the CHS site (by Andrew Brown) on how to do this, but i've personally never done it.
