The Mark 24 Mine/Torpedo

Code named Fido, this was an operational homing torpedo "first used in summer 1943"

"It appears that 346 were dropped and 68 submarines sunk and 33 damaged"

Most were by USN and RN - but other navies also used them.

This was an aircraft weapon - but might be used to represent homing torpedoes from submarines
and destroyers as well. There was a submarine launched version - called Mark 27. It remains in
service in some third world navies.

I am trying to find out if it will work in any or all modes?

There was an unrelated Mark 32 19 inch active homer - not perfected until after the war - intended for aircraft use
as an option - but mainly a destroyer weapons. It had to be dropped because of 24 inch fins - no tube use. It was
in service until 1955 - 330 were made - but we have no combat data to evaluate. Thought to be successful.

There was a successful passive homer called Mark 28 - a 21 inch fish using Mark 18 as its basis - and Mark 18 was a copy of the German
G7e electric torpedo. This was produced until 1952 and could use torpedo tubes. 16 were fired during the war for 5 hits.

I'd call it a depth charge, so it's only dropped on subs.

I agree - we define it the same as a DC - but give it the name of a torpedo for chrome. Very good analysis - this is likely to work
at least from ships.

Do PLANES ever drop any weapons?

If I send out an unarmed aircraft on a ASW mission it will sometimes "hit" a submarine (or a surface ship) - with what?

In WITP a torpedo bomber changes its weapon on some missions - is ASW or patrol like that?

If we assign DC to planes - CHS does - do they get used? IF so - this will work.

What if we put it on a submarine - whould a sub shoot it?
