Played the first three battles and was having a good time until I hit the fourth battle which freezes in the AI Planning stage of the first turn. I tried this three times thinking that perhaps my placement of troops may have caused the freezing. No good.

I then renamed and loaded the fourth battle into the scenario editor and tried it as a stand alone scenario and it worked fine.

So apparently there is some sort of a problem with the fourth battle of the 1st Infantry Campaign.

Has anyone reached the 4th battle without freezing?

Since the battles are randomly generated every time you create a campaign, it's unlikely anyone else could duplicate this without your campaign files.

If you can zip up your /Campaigns /Scenarios and /Saves folders and e-mail them to me, I can take a look and see if we can figure out what's causing the problem.

What version are you currently running?

I'm using the h beta patch.

Redleg,

It hangs for me because it's trying to load some Soviet "Pioneer 41" units, which don't exist in the default game. Was this a mod you had installed when the random campaign was generated that you've since removed? If so, that would explain how they got in there and why it hangs for you now.

I am also doing a random Ist Inf campaign and had a game with a Pioneer 41 platoon and it played fine, and I have not added any units. 

Well, there's a _German_ Pioneer 41 unit in the game, but there's no _Soviet_ Pioneer 41 unit by default.
