Disappearing units

I really dont get this:

I´m playing the German Kharkov campaign (the one with eight battles). Before the fourth battle I have - amongst other units - three PzGren platoons, a mortar platoon and a HMG platoon - all with 251-halftracks. The are all listed under my current units. When the fourth battle then starts NONE - except one Pzgren platoon with halftracks - are anywhere on the map.

After the battle the missing units are suddenly back in the current units list. Sort of, anyway: Now there are no longer any squads in the platoons - just a "0" at every unit. So if I wish to use the units I´ll have to reinforce them with entirely new - green - units.

Now, what kind of situation is this meant to represent? That the mentioned units went on a well deserved leave during the fourth battle, but then went AWOL?

The fourth battle is a tank battle, so it makes some kind of sense that these units doesn´t appear in this battle. But it doesn´t explain why they don´t return afterwards.

I´ve been looking in the manual for answers, but I must say that in many respects I find it very inadequate.[:(]

And here´s another strange thing: The mentioned pz gren platoon that did appear in the battle took absolutely NO part in the action - as this was a tank battle. Nevertheless the squads afterwards was awarded both infantry assault badges and close combat bars. How come? Are these awards completely ramdom?

Were they reinforcements for that battle?

That's extremely odd. Can you e-mail a save file (ideally before/after) to me at erikr@matrixgames.com please?

Ah yes - they're off-map reinforcements for that battle but should have continued on to the fifth battle thereafter. This sounds like a potential new bug, unfortunately. A save file would be great if you have it. It may be a data-related bug, in which case if you keep a save before the end of the fourth battle, we may be able to let you continue to the fifth without losing those forces.

Hi Umlaut,

Saves received, but I haven't had a chance to investigate on account of the holiday here. I should have an answer for you tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay, Umlaut.

Well, I saw the problem clearly in your Scenario 4 save as far as the additional units being somehow "lost". Their names in the post-game summary show up as generic and they do show up at the start of the next scenario at zero strength for me if I use your "end of scenario 4" save file. However, with v1.01 if I use your "end of scenario 3" save file and play through scenario 4, I cannot duplicate the issue. As far as I can see, it works, so I'm currently stumped as to how your save got into this state.

There was an issue with the original v1.00 release that could have caused this, so if you had played Scenario 4 with v1.00 I could see how this might have happened, but it should not happen with v1.01. Are you updated to v1.01 and could you confirm which version you originally played this with?

Hi Erik
I´ve just checked the dates on my save files, and I can see that when I began playing the third battle, I hadn´t installed any updates (I must say, that I think it is very hard to find the download page for updates). I finally found the  1.0.1 beta version and installed it during the third battle. So this was installed when I began the fourth battle. Now I´ve just installed the latest version.

Does this mean I will have to play battle three and four over again?

Cheers

Umlaut,

I think it would be worth trying to start from your "end of scenario 3" save with v1.01 and play through Battle #4 again to see if this problem reoccurs for you. I can't duplicate it here with v1.01 if I do that. Hopefully, that will solve it for you as well.

- Erik

Finding the download page is a breeze. Just go to any "main page" on any game and one of the links in the list on the left of the screen is "downloads".
