Does it simulate the entire war (I have managed not to find anything stating this). Does it sim out the battles or do you fight them out? I have read its strategy light is it? (WITP player here to micro manage does not cause me fear.)

It does the whole war. It sims out the battles, but in a very cunning and quite immersive way. I would not say it was strategy light, and as a WITP addict I can testify to it being at least as difficult to manage! Its deceptively simple on first glance, but a bit like some drinks, very smooth until it hits the back of the throat then .....OH BOY OH BOY! I joined the bet testers a few weeks ago and my brain hurts!
I would say it has a great mix of surface simplicity that will appeal to one type of player, yet also has a level of subtlety and detail that will appeal to the most micromanaging player around - seems like its a real triumph to me.
Now be aware that has no official status, I am not saying anything other than my own personal reactions.........

excellant. So not only do you have to deal with moving armies, but their logistics and supplies as well? How detailed is the naval end of it? (being a sailor)...again based on what I have read it seems really simplified, but as you say a lot may be going on underneath that the betas testers havent really detailed.

The naval war is mainly blockades, sea invasions, and port busting for the Union. The CSA can't compete on the high seas with the Union and need to raiders to upset shipping and sink transports. What you produce and where, have many effects... The MS river is a big must in the game, but level 2 forts as Vicksburg need a land attack to subdue...Naval leaders play a big part in these actions...

Jon I've seen the AI buying two ironclads in the Mississipi river and they gave me a big headache, gunboats were pretty inefective I had like 14 GB attacking an they didn't score a hit in several turns while the CSA always damage one or two. So beware the CSA can pull some nasty tricks in the Mississipi, to avoid this try to have areas next to ports occupied. The AI is real good in this game.

In replay to Rafael, build those ironclads. I can build a new factory for there price. Over the course of the war factories produce 10 supply a turn. That's 360 supply that can supply 72 militia to be created, or 9 Lt artillery...Hum...I'll take the new troops or artillery anyday...

If those IC's don't have a home (port), they become useless...Give the bigboys, Lee, Longstreet, and Jackson the weapons to win...

Hey Jon I didn't say I built them nor that it was a bad or good strategy, just said it came as a surprise. A new player might neglect the naval aspect, since the game has so many details not apparently there, and be in for a little surprise.
In the long term I guess building factories as CSA is a much more appropiate policy than building ironclads, but who knows...

Rafael after the post I saw you said the AI does, sorry. I started an AI game as the Union on level 3 to see how the AI is now...By the way, nice invasion of Kentucky in our PBEM game, good thing you did, if not the CSA was poised to go in if not.
