Amphib into Montgomery?

Let me say first of all, that I love the game. I've been waiting all my adult life for a good, strategic War Between the States game.
Now, I've been playing for about a year and a half as the Southern player. For the first time I just suffered an amphibious invasion into Montgomery. This is a serious flaw in the game as Montomery is probably 200 miles from the coast. The Union player should have to first go through Pensacola or Mobile. I left it undefended thinking that I could reinforce it in a turn. I knew the guy was coming and sent a corps to New Orleans but?????????

I'm away from home and thus all of my research materials, but I'm wondering: was there a fort that should be added so that Montgomery can't be taken in a single move?

Historically, no. In Mobile you had Forts Gaines and Morgan. In Pensacola, you had Fort Pickens which the Union maintained until the end of the war. My point is the capital of Montgomery was/is 190 miles from the Gulf Coast about the same as Atlanta, GA and Jackson, MS. To be able to amphib into Montgomery is unrealistic!

I see your point. Odd that no one has brought this up before. Perhaps for the next patch I'll add a Fort I (smallest fort type) and call it "Montgomery Defenses," so that this won't be an issue. (Anyone who knows how to mod can do this already.)
Would I be wrong to think that Montgomery must have had at least some fortifications? I wouldn't want to do anything completely ahistorical.

I don't think so Gil. Towards the end of the war Union cavalry marched in almost unopposed and burned the capital. But the interior of the South was like that in late '64 and '65. Wilson's Cavalry did much the same throughout Alabama during that time-frame with the exception of a token resistance in Selma by Forrest (the only battle he lost, by the way).
I don't think a fort would help. My problem was that I left it ungarrisoned because I didn't think the Union could amphib into it. Maybe Montgomery should be it's own province like Atlanta/Jackson. An amphibious force couldn't move into Montgomery without fighting somewhere else first. Charleston, Mobile, New Orleans, Savannah I understand but again, Montgomery is 190 miles from the coast.
Excellent game, by the way; and the support is outstanding.

I've already made a note that if/when we do a FOF expansion we should consider redrawing this part of the map slightly. It's far too complex a change to make for a patch, sadly. I appreciate your pointing it out.
