Game crashed

Started up my first game with the Union played by the AI on Normal. Part way through the first turn the game crashed. All I can tell you is that it looked like a strategic movement bug. There were two different forces moving from East to West at the same time with blue arrows all over the map. Part way through the move of these two groups it stopped and Microsoft said there was an error and needed to close the game.
Edit - Tried to repeat the crash just now but could not and the Union AI turn completed successfully.
As an aside - Is there any way to save the preferences? I keep having to turn the music off each time I start playing. Thanks.

Ok - I haven't had it crash on me in months, but if you can get this to repeat at all we would love a save file.

They should save automatically. Are they resetting for you? Can you double check whether there is a /dat/save folder in your installation?

- Erik

I'll watch for the crash again. Since it happened on the Union first turn I had no save file.
There is a /dat/save folder but it's empty. The music and graphics level reset back to the defaults when I started my second game. Do I need to save at least once to get them to stay where I set them?

Hm, as long as you set them and have a dat/save folder, it should keep. Try adjusting a few other optons/preferences and exiting and restarting to see if that makes any differene.

Preferences were saved this last time I changed some and quit. Not sure why it didn't take the first time.
Something I recall that was different in the first game when it crashed was that while the Gettysburg address was being recited the screen was black, i.e. there was no picture of Lincoln. The next two times I started up the game the Lincoln picture was there. Maybe something just didn't load right the first game.
Anyway, all looks OK now but I'll report the crash if it happens again and hope to have a file for you.

Ok, thanks - I wonder if the crash itself played a role in the preferences not saving? In any case, glad to hear that all is working fine now, enjoy!

Yes, I'm pretty sure that the preferences aren't actually saved until the game is exited normally. A crash will prevent the saving off of any changes. It does sound like the fact that the video loaded strange may be related to the game crashing.

Just got my second crash during the first part of the Union AI turn in a new game. I noticed the same situation where multiple units are being sent from East to West via strategic movement. No save game since this is still the first phase of the first Union turn. Attaching a screen shot at the time of the crash in case it might help.

I have also had a couple of crashes in this exact same situation
