Audio issue

I'm running vista64, soundmax integrated HD audio on an asus p5k-e mobo with latest driver, 8800gt with latest driver, 4 gig of ram, and q6600 cpu.

When looking at some of the stat screens, specially the list of generals, I hear a rapid ticking noise. It's not always the same cadence, it will usually start slow then speed up and then vary somewhat. If I click over to a different stat screen it will go away for a few seconds and then restart. I never hear it on the map, just the stat screens. I haven't had any crashes, but it makes going through the stats rather annoying until I turn the sound down.

I thought at first it sort of sounded like rapid mouse click noises and turned the mouse click volume in game to 0, but the noise did not stop.

Actually, that's not an issue. That's the "telegraph" background sound for some of the screens.

lol, really?  I mean it's ticking real fast.  I also noticed during the battle reports the sound of the rifles firing sounding like a machine gun.  Should the sound be playing that fast too?

Well, I can't hear what you're hearing, unfortunately unless you have a way to record it. But no I don't recalll the rifles sounding like machine guns. What does the production screen sound like to you?

Production screen I hear hammer on anvil, wood chopping?

I played some of the politicalinfscreen.wav files in the sound directory and they are the sounds I'm hearing in game at the same speed. I guess I wouldn't have expected the telegraph to be so rapid fire so to me it sounded like something going wrong. Do I also hear a typewriter on the leader screen?

Also now that I know it's a telegraph, it sounds more like a telegraph [:)]

Yes, I had the same sense about a typewriter sound in some of the info screens sometimes. And I think I know what you mean about the machine gun sound. At least one of the background battle sounds sounded a little that way to me as well, but I assumed it was a quick volley.

Ok, good to know the sounds are playing normally, sorry to hear that it was not obvious what they were intended to be to your ears, I guess we'll have to work on those.

actually, it is a bug.....
In leader screen a new background sound thread is started every time you click on a filter button. The net result is a cacophony of tickling and talking after you select 3 or 4 filters

I was just going to post about it sounding like multiples of the sound playing at the same time after turning up the volume and really listening, I didn't put 2 and 2 together to figure out it's the filters doing it though.  I can confirm the filters add to the sound for me too.

Thanks for the additional report, that does sound like a fix is needed.

BTW, there was an identical bug in World at War 1.0 :)

That's a great clue, thanks.
