I can't see the Japanese ships anymore in combat

I have been playing this stock scenario 15 patched to 1.806 and using subchaser's map for a year or so.
I am in early 43 and suddenly I cannot see the Japanese ships during any combat.
I reloaded my art files several times and even copied them from my back-up burned CD file disc with all of the original artwork plus the art mods I have used since I started playing the game.
I am so confused and have run out of ideas.

Are the ship images viewable in the Ship display screen or the in-game database screen?
That funny character is usually indicative of the image files not being loaded correctly due to memory constraints.
Have you tried rebooting your PC?

If I play as the japanese I can see the ships in the ship display screen and the in-game database screen.
Only during combat are the Japanese ships not being displayed, this problem has been on-going for a week now.
If I start a new game as allies or any of my saved games I cannot see the japanese ships.[&:]

The folder used for this art in combat is "Art/JapShipShills_transp".
The files are jnshil9999.bmp where 9999 is the class #.
Use the editor to find the class # of one of the Jap ships, and see if you can find the file in the that art folder.
Try clicking on it to view it.

re-installing didnt work and I did what you said Michael and I can see any ship in that specific art folder you listed when I click on them. In game during combat I cannot.
Somehow my art folder is corrupted maybe.[:(]

If I am reading the ship name correctly it is a class 059- mutsuki in the art folder it is jnshill0059

When all else fails, reinstall from original media, apply 1.8.0.4 comprehensive patch and apply 1.8.0.6 incremental patch and test, if this is working proceed to apply mods.

i'd also recommend DEINSTALLING the old game first...

I de-installed and installed vanilla witp 1.21-1.804 comp and then 1.806 incrimental and it still does not show any Japanese planes like the screenie i posted.
Now I am really beginning to get annoyed. Why after almost 4 years is this happeneing?
Should I re-download the game from the members area ?[&:]

Folks, I don't mean to be a complainer here but is there anyone who can explain what is going on?
I re-dowloaded the 1.804 comp and 1.806 revised(is that the same as incrimental, the revised patch is 3.3 mg and has a date of 24 may 2007) patches and I am using the vanilla stock art and sound files, NO MODS at all.[:)]
And here is what I am still dealing with.

Looks like you've still got some files that are messed up.
If uninstalling is not enough - make sure you delete ALL files manually from your WITP folders, especially all the art folders. Then try again from the top.
I guess the reason we think this will work is that most of us aren't having this problem - well I've never had it - and I've installed the game 100 times - so it must be possible to run WITP without having the problem.
Also, when you install from scratch ONLY apply the 1.8.0.4 comp and the 1.8.0.6 incremental nothing else. But of course, install from original media to begin the process.
Otherwise, what OS are you running (we've been assuming he isn't going to say VISTA
?

Tried and true good old windows XP Home with service pack 2.
I have installed and re-installed this game so many times I can't count.
Never had this issue happen before.
I suppose if I have to, I can perform a complete OS re-install but I really don't like that idea.
Just to be crystal clear, I can only install the comp 1.804 and the 1.806 incremental and not install original 1.21?
I am pretty PC hardware literate but am weak on software, IOW I can build a PC from a pile of parts scattered around but software, as this issue proves, is not a strong point.[8D]

Ok a little more information for you folks, I just installed the original 1.21 stock vanilla and I CAN see the japanese ships now.
It appears somewhere between the 1.804 and 1.806 patch is mucked up. So now...what to do what to do.[8D]

1.804 comp patch is the culprit somehow. I do have ALL of the previous patches 1.3 and on and I will test each and see if I can't find where it is breaking down..... wish me luck.

I would install the 1.804 patch and see if it works. If not, redownload it again. If it does then try the 1.806, or maybe redownload it again.

Ok, all the way up from 1.21 to 1.3 to 1.4 to 1.5 and to 1.6 all is well. I am afraid to load 1.804 comp now....
I even downloaded the patch 2 times and saved it to 2 different locations.
A bit gunshy at this point....
