AAR: Night moves
DB: ANW DB (2.1)
I played this scenario as it is a scenario set in the Falklands war. Don't know who wrote it but is is a very well-made and recmmended scen!
My mission was to pass a squadron of FF/DD through Falkland sound at night and be gone again before dawn and air attacks could start. My Harriers were not available untill dawn either.
I set sail at full speed, escorted by a helicopter which soon picked up a squadron of Argentine surface warships. I sent my SSN on an intercept course.
I passed Sea Lynx helo's armed with ASM missiles down Falkland sound and these found and killed 4 patrol boats - at the cost of one helicopter.
I continued down Falkland sound, still at 28 knots and EMCON, and had my helo's overfly the coastline searching from ground targets to shell. They found several obeserver posts which were killed.
Meanwhile my SSN had approached the Argentine SAG and, coming in close, fired a full spread of torpedoes. The first salvo caused the group to split up and clained one ship, the second clained a second ship, and I harpooned the last ship. I don't think the Brits had sub-harpoon in 1982 but oh well...
Just around dawn my destroyer group exited Falkland Sound, ready to rejoin the TF, when torpedoes were detected from and Argentine submarine. I raced south, but the sub had fired its 20nm torps at 12nm distance so I could outrun them. The Argentine sub could not of course outrun the two helo's I sent in persuit.
Turning North again I noticed damage appearing on one ship and found myself under attack from waves of Pucaras from goos Green and Stanley. My own Harriers had just taken off and could only claim a few of the attackers on their way home. Two ships were slightly damaged but could still steam at 15 knots.
I now positioned harriers around the SAG and around the CVBG, expecting patrol planes and air strikes from the mainland. I also sent my 12 Air to Ground armed harriers to destroy the hangars at Goose Greene and Stanley. This they did but with 8 harriers shot down to air defences.
Then skyhawks were detected coming into my SAG. I intercepted them with all airborn harriers, but unfortunately one harrier got shot down and anothers sidewinders went wild and scored an own goal. The skyhawk attack was beaten though.
In the next several hours I maintained CAP and brought the SAG back to the CVBG for refueling. However due to having lost 10 harriers I lost the game.
Great scenario!
