HOW TO OFFSET BLOCKADE BY CSA?

In connection with the thread below. The key seems to be building depots on the Islands. I have wanted to attack the union troops on the islands and can't move there myself to create a battle.
Why can't I (CSA) occupy those Islands myself to defend them early on in the war?
What do I need to do to counter attack those islands once occupied by yankees?
Why can't I move an eastern AC to a leader group near the Island to aid in initiative and attack when initiative is achieved?

You could, but you'd need control of the sea to do it, so that you could have transports there long enough to land your troops. That's not a very likely thing given the naval superiority that the Union starts with and will likely only get stronger in.

So, I can't go to Hilton Head, just the yankees can. Just like it is today[:D]. Then, is it possible to attack the depots and troops that occupy the islands?

Actually you can get to some of the islands. I got to the island off Savannah by moving there my first turn. I even moved some heavy artillery there. But as Erik said you need to control the sea. I guess I just got lucky. Thought there would be time to take the other islands but the Union navy moved in pretty fast to prevent that. Just keeping Savannah open earned me 12 supply a turn. Not a whole lot but as the South every bit helps.

To paraphrase the great NBF, a competent Federal navy will always get to all five offshore islands the firstest (USA moves before CSA) with the mostest (a single cruiser should be sufficient in most places, more where the CSA might introduce a fighting ship).

The size of the port has alot to do with the blockade. Wilmington is the tough one. It needs 4 crusiers to contain (with leader), the smaller ones take less...

GBS, sure the CSA can go there. All they need to do is control the sea area, move in a transport and move in a unit. Won't happen huh...Why would you go out there anyways?
