I've always liked Michael Palmer's, "The War that Never Was", Tom Clancy's, "Red Storm Rising", and Larry Bond's, "Red Phoenix".

Welcome aboard, shipmate!  [8D]

Well... considering Tom used Larry's board version to help write Red Storm Rising... I start with that one. Covers some good, basic ship handling and sensor explanations for non-naval types.

I read The Third World War, by General Sir John Hackett et al, some years before reading Red Storm Rising. I do believe Mr. Clancy may have read it too?..

I found this a fascinating read and introduction to theory and practice of naval warfare:

Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat by Wayne P. Hughes Jr.

Red Storm Rising, as well as other books by Clancy are my favorites.

Read his books

"Every Man a Tiger" and "Into the Storm"

nice works.

Frans.

If you are looking for a Harpoon-specific tactical guide, you can try:

ORIGINAL: Jan Masterson

i've received today the book Harpoon II: The Official Strategy Guide by Ed Dille and Tom Basham, it seems a very valuable read! ;)

I have it and agree that it's very good.

Or there's the Harpoon Battlebook by James DeGoey. I picked it up used off Amazon. The tactics are still applicable. Might be able to get it off e-bay too
