CW PBEM?

Post by John 3rd »

Readers:

I was a huge fan of this series of games when they first came out. I'm strongly thinking of taking a breather from my War In The Pacific addiction and pick up this set of games again.

The questions I have are:
1. Are there many people out there who have it that would do a PBEM game?
2. Is the interface any easier in the new edition for sending and returning turns?

Would like some thoughts before I purchase it.

Thanks,
John

1. At the moment I have just the Napoleonic version, but I just ordered the ACW so I will have that soon as well. I am always up for a PBEM game, although I can't say for sure how many others are. It does seem that the HPS series is more popular for PBEM, but again I'm not sure about that either. Personally I love the games, and from what I've read there are pros and cons to both series. I like to play in 3D and so I don't know if I could get into the HPS titles since you pretty much have to play in 2D from what I've heard.

2. As far as I know it should be the same, I think the only difference is compatablity with newer OS's. I've played almost every Napoleonic scenario with a friend and have had no problems at all. The HPS titles are supposedly faster for PBEM due to less file swapping, but I kindof like the way turns are in BG (although I havent tried the HPS titles).

Hope this helps at least a little, maybe others on here can give better answers...

I need some clarification after this answer.  (Thanks for writing!)  The updated Battleground:  CW Series is completely compatible with new systems sin't it?

What is the procedure for running a PBEM game?  Is it the same as WITP?

Thanks

Hey IronWarrior I think I am the only player on the planet that can't deal with the HPS graphics. I guess I must be spoiled. The only draw back to the Battleground CW series is the really bad AI but at least now you can play on line or PBEM.

I'm an old time board gamer and as others have posted, have yet to find an AI good for anything other then learning the game (and way back when BG Gettysburg was brand spanking new, I played the south in the campaign game without bothering to learn the system and still got 10x the points needed for a total victory - definitely weaker then most with the piecemeal attacks and standing in the open in range of fire for hours being nothing more then a target) so I play myself hot seat just like I did with the board games. I know you've already posted saying you don't get satisfaction that way but I am curious: how long do PBEM games take? I've avoided them because of my greatly varying hours - I could easily see myself as a pain in the butt and a drag to the other players. Seems that unless people can be online at the same time, one could only do one turn per 24 hours. Correct?

Try these Mods for your HPS games they help if you play in 3D.
