Clumsy forum

The forum on the Vicious Byte ToS site was much easier to use than this one: you could see the header to every message, not just that of the first in the thread.
Also, it seems *much* slower to load.
Can we change Matrix's forum style?

I personally like the new forum. It is far easier for me to keep tabs and try to answer questions on the subjects important to TOS players.

It takes a little getting used to for the learning curve, but you're right about not having to scroll down lots of pages to get the latest replies on older threads. I just wish it didn't need cookies to post replies. I usually surf with cookies off, but have to switch them to post anything.

I don't like the cookie or Java dependence. I really liked the old forum's easy format to read.

I do just fine with Java turned off in this board. Didn't even know it used it until you mentioned it.

Old forum was way better, IMO. This one is just too confusing. The reply system is far from being easy to read.

I prefer this one. Guess how the old forum would look like with the amount of messages we have here. This one shows me whats new on top, I can quote with ease and I don't need to administrate it. Just great !

In the old one it was also easy to know new posts (green ones), was even easier to edit replies (and it was easy to reply phrase by phrase), and administring it was simply deleting msgs wasn't it? <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Administrating is also feeling responsible for it to work. But let us stop arguing which forum is better and why. You liked the old - I like the new.

Well,
this little Forum here is a highstandard UBB used on nearly every serious website with a forum on it. Websites not using Infopops forum use other forumsystems that are very very similiar in its structure. A forumsystem like on the Viciousbyte site is, looking at the amount of posts we face in the Matrix forum every day, barely unmanagable for us admins and not comprehensive enough for the user.
You´ll have to get used to this forum style I´m afraid, and believe me, I liked the "older styles" also when I first had to cope with an UBB. Once you get used to it you´ll never never want to miss it again <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> .
Cheers

HUm I really like the matrix kind of forum, but I guess that is because I am used to them first.
I find the old forum kind confusing, hard to manage and keep track of new threads and a bit slow. They are also less practical for quotation and/or quick reference onthe full thread...

Myself I've found for the usages I generally require of forums the gneric ones need a lot of rebuilding. I don't mind either style though I like being able to go back to older topics than the Vicious Byte one allows.

they both have their ups and downs. i've used this kind of forum a lot bfore, so i'm used to them... but i was also using the old forum for a year + so i'm used to it too. this forum's easier to tell what has new posts in it, and it's a lot easier to manage for the admins i bet, but the old forum was better b/c you could have one thread splitting off on several different subjects w/o getting in eachothers way and getting confusing. plus it was easier to quote statement-by-statement on the old forum.
then again... i certainly don't miss all those stupid colens...
