Bug with Mesons

I've been told repeatedly that mesons should do 2+2 or 3+3 damage on every hit. However, I have found that mesons, the internal damage does not occur every time and seems to follow the chance of electronics damage (so 25%/40% of getting 2/3 internal damage).

Not a bug. Mesons have %chance to do internal damage. I hit the ammo slot of an enemy yesterday destroying most of their LRM's and sent them into engine shutdown due to heat. It was a lot of fun. How did we ever live without mesons?

I was led to beleive they did internal damage EVERY time!!!

I, too, remember all the arguements about the usefulness of mesons, and remember it being said that they always do internal damage, just not always critical damage.

Bug confirmed. Will be fixed in WS <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> and perhaps in v1.4 if I find some spare time.

That sounds good. I think mesons should only do internal damage. But it will make them a huge threat.

You mean taking away their chances for doing light/medium damage to equipment? No thanks, eventhough I hate Mesons to my gills (they never work for me but my enemies kill me with them <img src="smile.gif" border="0"> ), that's what they were designed for.

Having 100% chance for 2/3 internal damage was my perception as well. I still wouldn't consider them very effective only because of that, since even with assaults that have the thickest armors compared to internals, it takes quite a while to bring just one body part down with them, and if and when you'll propably have other armament as well, their internal-cutting specialty will be fairly useless.

For example, comparing AC12 to HMG. Target is an Assault titan's CT with maxed out Dullaroy armor, 74pts plus 29 internals. To destroy it, you'd need 9 AC12 shots or 10 HMG shots. HMG shots would take 19 sec longer to shoot, heat you up 14C less and consume over one full slot of ammo compared to AC12's bit over half. Since this is about the optimal case for HMG, generally speaking they would be inferior to AC's if it wasn't for their chance for criticals..

You dont ahve to destroy the bodypart. I was playing the AI with a meson titan that i designed, did medium damage to the gyro of the enemy titan. It spent the rest of the game standign up and tripping every step.

Yep, you don't, but I thought Eric meant he wanted mesons to do ONLY 2+2 or 3+3 damage without those criticals.

As it is now, you pretty much don't have to get nowhere near destroying a body part before you've liquified most of the equipment in it..

i've got a question. Assuming you strip the armour off a bodypart then hit it with a HMG, will the HMG do 3+3=6 dmg straight to the internals?

No, they only do 3 damage.
