great story...espacialy the part about the USMC pilot:

"Nobody more than Nick — he had a gaping hole from a 20 millimeter Japanese shell blown in the side of his plane, and he somehow managed to fly the thing 250 miles over the Pacific, badly injured, missing an eye, with most of his tail section blown off."

the story resembles on the story about saburo sakais story over guadalcanal.

What the story forgot to mention was that when Nick finally managed to land on his carrier, a fellow sailor from Bridgeport helped him out of the Corsair.

It was a small world back in WW II.
