While I was checking out WW2 Road to Victory, I browsed IQ web sight and noticed their other project, it seems a very complex task. in fact quite ambitious, I would suggest. has anyone else noticed this game?

I noticed it, but I'm unsure what to think. It says on this page that it's "real time" (not something I'd be interested in, but we'll see):

Its adjustable real-time - you can slow it down to a crawl. I guess its somkind of hex based hearts of iron. The pictures look amazing. But I doubt theyll be able to make a good AI for this.

Looks kind of like what 2020 was supposed to do but perhaps better?  Guess we'll see.

I like the Santa vs Reindeer graphics, kinda funny.

Ha! I liked the trailer...all of these rotating 3D models, then about halfway through, after therowing out game features, come the word "NO 3D!" Found it amusing. [:D]

That map looks really, really nice, too.

It's good to see there is some competition for HoI3.

Maybe Paradox will get off their laurels and start designing games again.

I see that very often we are called competition. I would prefer word 'alternative'.

Indeed, Wastelands Interactive founders came from HoI2 modding community (I'm still administrating largest polish Paradox games fan forum) and we decided it is better to make own game than dealing with somebody else' engine disabilities.

Paradox needs some competion (or alternatives) after the hubristic, feature lite mediocrity, cynical experiment in serial publishing, that is EU:Rome.

Your game looks excellent BTW.

Paradox is a growing company and from a small developer become a large publisher.
All their games are living very long thanks to magnificent mods made by fans.

Can we be a threat for them? Time will show.

Guys, I was wandering do you have any ideas for naming vehicles that didn't exists in reality. It would be much more exciting to have "Washingtons" instead of generic "Heavy Tanks '36" in US Army.

Not a full answer but most vehicle designations and even nicknames follow a pattern.   In the US, MBTs tend to be named after generals.  Helicopters after Native American tribes, Ship Classes I think each have their own history, Subs are often named after cities, CVs are presidents, Destroyers are named after destroyer captains/admirals, etc....  There are of course exceptions but the point is that in most armies there's a pretty discernable pattern to the naming and you can just continue the logic.

Why do you want to put in non historic models ?

People playing WW2 games usually have certain perceptions about this era, adapting from books and movies. Any divergence would just disrupt imagination. That being said, the fun part in wargaming is about 'alternating history' and not dealing with unhistoric elements. Got to admit that I didn't consider your 'Road to Victory', because from all I had read it's too shallow for my taste. However, I would gladly purchase another Grand Strategy game, which offers at least same depth as Hearts of Iron.

So please do yourself a favor and take the other road this time, by making 'Bitter Glory' to a worthy alternative for Hoi3 - and omit any unrealistic gameplay elements. Do not commit same mistake as Battlegoat with their SR 2020, since people who are in wannabe-rts-wargames, like 'Company of Heroes', usually prefer titles with an appropriate 3D engine anyway.

Lutzow.

If you would like to go strictly historical in Bitter Glory there is no problem with that. (And AI will try to act historical)
But when you will be customizing a new vehicle you can choose two ways. First one is choosing historical design and another option is to compose it by yourself. You thought that Panther was perfect tank then go ahead and produce it, but if you think it should have bigger engine or different catterpillars type, you can change it.

Historical setting at the moment when the game starts will be as it was in reality. But then you can create history by yourself. Of course such nonsenses as Albania conquering half of Europe won't be possible in the game (without modding of course).

Another thing is that Road to Victory and Bitter Glory are not connected in any way. Wastelands Interactive has got very small input into the RtV developing process. We have started to take care the game after it was released.

Now, everybody release your imagination.

Now, everybody release your imagination.

Well, a simple solution would be to give a generic name by default which people subsequently can rename. Kinda like the unit designer in Space Empires works.
