Hi, am really new to this modding thing but fed up of playing stock. Have downloaded AB extended map with Aden And Panama and replaced the maps in the art file no problems (if this is right), anyway came up in the game correct map with all the adjustments but there was no ability to use Aden or Panama like SF (i.e no dot so no ships arrive etc) and also some of the dots were a few hexes off the islands they were meant to represent (midway/Truk), so just wondering how i correct and what else i need to install to make it work. Btw, not very good at this modding thing but trying. Started with a clean install due to previous efforts, lol. Any advice would be handy, thanks, martyn

There's a file called pwhex.dat that came along with the CHS stuff. It needs to be installed in your WitP install folder, NOT in the art subfolder. That'll fix it.

Terminus-I'm having the same problem.

I went to the CHS folder, then into it's Art folder, but there is no file "pwhex.dat" in it. Could you please help out some more, as to where this pw... is?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Terminus-OK, I've got the pwhex.dat fille downloaded and placed in what I think is WITP install folder.

Here's what I did-1. put file on desktop. 2. Went to local disk, opened WITP. 3. Dragged pw file into WITP. Unzipped it.

I still have the same problem with stars being several hexes away from actual location on map. Advice, please-anyone.

One other problem- there is no way to uninstalled the maps, etc. The mod icon only has install.

Thanks, HB.

Unzipping probably created some sub-folders and placed all files in these folders automatically, so now the file is most likely in a sub-folder of your WitP install folder. Did you get a warning about files being replaced?

Try unzipping the file on your desktop, then search the pwhex.dat in the folders that will appear on your desktop, and copy&paste it into your WitP install folder.

VSWG-OK, here's what I've done. DLed file from A Brown, map6.3.
Went thru following steps: 1. Clicked My computer; C drive; Matrix games; WITP; opened WITP to place where there are folders for Art, Scenarios, etc. In that place there is a folder-PWhex_standard_v6.3a. In this folder is the PWhex.dat . I believe I'm in the WITP install folder.

After all this I'm still getting the distorted map. I'm sorry I'm such a klutz, but what do I do next? Send the PWhex file to a compressed file & then unzip, or what? Please advise.

Many thanks to all. Hugh Browne

Hugh,
We've all been here before with one mod or another. The symptom you are seeing means that your map files do not match your pwhex.dat file. So check the following:

1) make sure that Andrew Brown's map is installed in Matrix\WITP\Art (not a subfolder). Depending on how you downloaded it you may need to use the install utility (I forgot the name). You must then (I think) install Andrew's regular map before installing the extended map so the utility must be done twice if using the autoinstall method. If you did it by hand you should be OK, but check the map files and make sure that you can see Aden and Panama extensions.

2) look in your Matrix\WITP folder. You should see a pwhex.dat file. When you install the game this refers to the stock map. You must replace that file in that folder with the pwhex.dat file that corresponds to your modified map. Locate that file (the one you downloaded) and paste it into that folder (not the ART folder) replacing the original.

The mod switching utility (again I forgot the name) switches the maps and the pwhex file between stock and Andrew's map automatically. I think most people prefer this method so you might try to restart and follow the steps outlined by Andrew.
