Some backgrounds and a tip for quick testing

Here is a link to a zip with a few backgrounds I either have used or plan to use in stadiums. They are all named skyline01.bmp, skyline02.bmp etc.
http://www.geocities.com/gary_l_sorrell/misc/Backgrounds.zip
Most stadiums I made all use 2 files for the background...the model file
skyline.x
and
skyline.bmp
If you would like to try multiple skylines in a stadium, a quick way to do it is to dump all of them in a stadium folder, then actually edit the skyline.x file in notepad...its quicker than swapping out and renaming bmps.
go to the stadium folder you are using and open the skyline.x in notepad.
scroll to the bottom and you will see this entry:
Code: Select all
Material NoName_1Material_0_0 {
0.552941; 0.509804; 0.588235; 1.000000;;
0.000000;
0.100000; 0.100000; 0.100000;;
0.000000; 0.000000; 0.000000;;
TextureFilename {
"skyline.bmp";
the part that says skyline.bmp is telling the game to apply that bmp as a texture.
just add the number after it of the new background you want to see in game and save
If you wanted to test skyline06.bmp just add in the 06 and it would look like
Code: Select all
TextureFilename {
"skyline06.bmp";
save and go back in game and it will load that one up.
if you run max in a window you can leave notepad open and when you quit game, edit filename and save, then go back into a quick game and it will load whatever you changed it to.
quicker than renaming crap.
Just make sure you 'save', and not 'save as'. Save as might save it to txt. That will cause unnecessary strife and misery [8D]

Cheers Gary
I'm well familiar with switching background skylines by now
But the extra graphics always come in handy.

Thanks Garry for the quick response. Will this work with the other stadiums created by others?

And on that note, I've had a day off from painting stadiums
spent modifying some of the backgrounds
Here's a little sample of your university background Gary
I added some trees and a few other bits and bobs here and there too

No Simmer they probarbly wont
others have mostly used much smaller graphics on a repeater
with a helluva load of stretching going on.
One of the main reason's I like working on stadiums made by Gary
is the huge graphics he uses, so much easier to work with.

No alcohol, just havin a good time.
Thats why I made the stadiums with big textures. It's easier to customize and this IS called Maximum Football.
I dont consider my stadiums as necessarily ready to use, from a looks standpoint. I release them ready to customize.
Those additions look great Mykal.
I've been experimenting with a square background. I actually like it better, it looks better from inside the stadium. But, I guess it's a matter of taste.

You'll have to let me have a look Gary
Im always on the lookout for new idea's to shake things up a bit
I dont consider my stadiums as necessarily ready to use, from a looks standpoint. I release them ready to customize.
I'd agree with that and I like it that way
Something Else I like with the way you do things, most things have a proper name rather than S11 etc
so obvious which bit your editing straight off the bat
not that Im knocking those who use names such as S11 etc, because its still very easy to work out after looking at the stadium a few times
but usually with yours, I dont even bother loading the stadium in,
I just jump straight in an customise it first because its obvious what graphic is what.

cancel that, I dont have any shrubs and bushes
but I have got a selection of leaves and stuff premade
if you overlay them you could easily build up a bush or shrub to your own liking
let me know if you want 'em

I think a lot of that stuff is just held over from when somebody unpacked the default stadiums.
I've tried to start making my own textures when I can. And if I dont name them the obvious, it will drive me crazy.

Email sent buddy,
there's a good few different types of leaves to choose from
just a thought, down sizing some of the tree's I sent ya' might also work (just lop off the trunk)
