Backup loses battles ??

France made a land move, initiated both sieges and battles. A problem occurs under the battles.

Host - not France - issues a backup after running french land phase, but not the land combat phase - because France never finished it.

Now France loads the backup, but no battles or sieges can be started. No yellow borders and no response to clicking the area.

Anybody tried this ?

Is it a bug or is backup between land move and land combat just not possible?

(What about naval and naval combat? )

I guess whether you categorise it as a bug or just the way the game is programmed is a matter of taste. I think Marshall has posted about this before, and yes you can't take a backup between land movement and combat, you have to go back to the start of land movement.

I think he advised that the host should be sure to take a backup copy of the game before starting his land phase if there was going to be combat. As host I try to take backups before and after all my phases, especially after.

Correct, the backup issued in this case might still have the problems??? What were the battle problems? The best spot to create a backup would be at diplomacy.

The battle problems was not a game issue. A newbie had been invited and joined the game. He was more or less thrown into a war, and hadn't had time to get familiar with UI and PBEM procedures. He simply got frustrated and gave up. We were not able to recover the gamefiles to sort it out.

So I issued a backup from after having run the french land phase, but not the landcombat phase. I expected France to have a normal land combat phase, redoing his sieges and restarting this battle of Vienna.

According to his description when loading the franch backup, no battles where waiting to be done. Not the sieges and not the battle. No yellow area borders anywhere. I guess all he could do was end the land combat phase.

I imagine not all battle infomation is passed on to nations not involved in them in the land phase, but just the result, which is in the land combat phase file...

If you want, I can report it in Mantis, and attach the french backup file.

I'll look at it. I may need to prevent backups in the land combat phase???
When exactly are you doing the backup?

That is exactly the issue I had when trying a backup between movement and combat. Not 100% sure but I thought I had the yellow areas but none of them worked. Regardless, it was not possible to fight the outstanding combats.

I think this issue has a good save and instructions on how to recreate so I'll be looking at this later...
