CHS Installation-Continued

Hi-OK, I've tried everything everyone has suggested(thank you all), but no joy. So, I'm going back to basics. Below is what I've done & where I'm hung up now.
1. Unstalled & reinstalled a fresh WITP, with patches up to & including 1.806.
2. Installed A. Brown's map 6.2. I know it's installed because I can see it in the game. However, stars are still off by several hexes.
3. DLed & installed scen 113. Here's the problem. Computer says scen.113 is installed. But when I go to start it up, there is no 113 in the scenario selection area. When I load the same scenario from the vanilla selection area, stars are still out of place.
Question-If scen 113 is installed(which computer says it is) what should I see in scenario selection area? Yes, I have scrolled down to slot 113-nothing in it.
Again, help, please. Thanks, Hugh Browne

2. sounds like you do not have the 6.2 or 6.3 AB version pwhex.dat file in the right place. Get the 6.3 from ABs site and put it in the main "War in the Pacific" folder, not the data one or art or any other sub folder.
3. look in "War in the Pacific/scen" folder and see if you have some files that look like xx113.xxx. If not, you have them in the wrong place. If you do, you might not have ended up with all of the.

Nomad-Thanks for your input. I'll look at it.
However, in reading your reply, it starts with "2." Is there a 1. that didn't make the post?
Thanks again, HB.

Nomad-OK, I've looked at the files. Here's what I have:
1. In the WITP folder(where Art, etc. are) I have 2 folders labeled "PWhex_standard_v6.3a". One is a regular open folder and one is zipped. Do I need to unzip it?
2. In the Scenario folder I have "Adetail001,002", etc. It also contains "Adetail 101, 102 and including 113."
What do I do now?
Thanks, HB

I've uploaded the pwhex file you need. To download the file, click on this link:
http://www.megaupload.com/en/?d=RAKO03N0
On that page, you will have to identify three letters, and enter them into the white box to the right (this is done to avoid abuse). Click on "download". On the next page, wait for 45 seconds, then click on "free download". Save the file in your
main WITP directory - the folder that contains sub-folders like Art, Sound, etc... You should get a popup with a message like "This file already exists, do you want to replace this file". Click "yes", or "replace this file".
A small request: please create only 1 thread about a topic - this keeps the discussion focused, and the forum tidy. [:)]

OK, if you have a file named pwhex.dat, rename it to pwhex.dat.old. Then rename the pwhex_standard_v6.3a FILE to pwhex.dat
That should get all of the bases and artwork aligned.
If you have files with 113 in them, then they should show up. I do not know why it isn't showing up.
Just to clarify - the pwhex file (map data file) will not change the base positions. Base positions are defined in the scenario data.
Scenario 113, if it is the one from my website, is a scenario modified for use with my map. If it is not present in the scenario list when playing the game, then it is most likely not installed in the correct place. All Scenario files have to go in the SCEN folder (below the folder where WitP is installed).
You can check whether you have the right map data file (pwhex) by using the '1', 'R' and 'F6' keys and checking whether the map data matches the map art.

Andrew just made my next post redundant. [:)]

Scroll to Aden. Your map should look like this:

You have to follow the directions for installing CHS to the letter. Use the manual install method. Once I printed out the instructions and followed them, marking the steps off as I proceeded, I had no troubles.

OK, I give up. I cannot make this thing work. I do need one further favor.
I need to uninstall A. Brown's map v6.2 without having to uninstall WITP.
The version of Modselect I have does not allow me to uninstall the map.
Advice, please.
Thanks, Hugh Browne

OK, sorry about that last post-I was extremely frustrated.
I tried something else. I scrolled down to slot 113 & clicked it. To the right I got a screen saying,"Scen.113, old scen 13(or whatever) adapted to A Brown's map." Great! Then I clicked, "load scenario" & I got a flash message" scenario failed to load." Tried the same for scen 111. Same results.
Obviously, I've got a problem in getting scen 113 up and running. To refresh your memory, if I go to Scenarios and click it, it shows "ADetail 101,102 and ADetail 113, etc.
Any ideas where I go from here? Thanks, Hugh Browne

The only suggestion I have is to download the senario package again and reinstall it. To me it sounds like the files are corrupted.

Scenario 113
IS NOT a CHS scenario. It is a stock scenario converted for use with AB's standard map, not the extended map that CHS uses.
Download and install one of these scenarios:
http://www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp/CHS_dow ... _Scenarios
or download one of the scenarios from the section "CHS variants":

VSWG-Many thanks. I've DLed scen.155 & installed it in the scenario folder. I THINK I've got everything in the right place. Only question on this is where to extract the pwhex.dat DLed from A. Browne. I did it in the WITP folder, where Art, etc. are located.
If the above is correct and I use ModSelect to load #2,A.Brown's map, etc, what should I see in the Scenario Selection area when I want to load the game, besides the regular vanilla scenarios? Or, do I scroll down to slot 155 and try and load from there? Again, thanks to all who have helped. Hugh Browne

pwhex.dat goes into the WitP folder, correct.

Modselect.bat installs the base package, the scenarios are "installed" simply by dropping their files into the Scenario folder. Both steps are necessary.
As soon as the scenario files are in the SCEN-folder, you will be able to select he scenario by scrolling down to slot 155.

VSWG- Thanks. It's the second part of your reply I'm having a problem with. Let me tell you what I have, then perhaps you can straighten me out.
When I open Scenarios, I have vanilla files on left.
On right I have 2 folder.. First is an open folder, CHS_2.08_scenario_155. When I double left click it, I can see all the detailed 155 filkes.
The second folder is zipped, also CHS 155. Also, when I double left click I can see the 155 detail files.
Problem: When I go to load the game, scroll down to slot 155, there is nothing there. When I hit select scenario, I get a flash message"scenario failed to load". Please advise. Thanks, HB

Copy all files from the folder "CHS_2.08_scenario_155" into the folder "SCEN" itself. Then start the game, and go to slot 155.

VSWG-EUREKA-I've found it!. I have scen. 155 up and playing. There is just one nagging question left.
Does CHS have the Aden & Panama map extensions? If so, where on the map does one find them? I've looked at San Diego & Karachi & don't see them.
Again, many, many thanks to all who've helped this bumbling player through the maze. Hugh Browne

Aden is in the very top left corner, see post #8 for a screenshot.
Panama is several screens south of San Diego. A rather large area is covered by the channels leading to it, you can't miss it.
