Local Defence Units

Gday All,

I want to create some immobile local defence units, replicating LDV(Home Guard), Police, Reservists etc that will be anchored to their city. These will stop the enemy dropping/landing company sized units to captured seemingly undefended rear area Locations. IRL some had a population in the millions and could have raised at least a Brigade sized defemce force.

I also dont want to use up LCU slots.

If, in the Locations tab, I allocate squads and maybe other devices, to a Location being a City, will they fight if attacked????

Nope. Just as you can allocate resources to a land unit, but they won't work. Devices must be used in the places code expects them to be in - or they will be ignored.

You can do what you wish to do - and I put a lot of research into doing just what you want to do - but only land combat units can do it. That is - after all - what they are. Although there is a static device per se - and many devices NOT in RHS also have static loads (of 9999) - these don't work very well. They create false reports of troops sizes, and they don't prevent a unit from retreating or moving in many circumstances. If you want a static unit - call it a CD unit and under that a fort. You can tell the truth in the unit name -- but only a CD fort will be truly static.

There is a lot of merit in having local defenses. Throw in some engineers - and they tend also to destroy resoures and industry when the location falls. I don't like a squad conquering a metro plex - although many consider that just fine - and I will always have local defense units.

Note that some local defense units are NOT static - notably light infantry in some services. But there should be recommended house rules against local forces leaving their territory.
