Big B and/or Andrew Map Question

Gentlemen:
In the war room and in my AAR I posted questions about moving troops from Honshu to Hokkaido. I cannot get troops to move North to fight Dan's invasion up there. Is there something I am missing? I THOUGHT one could move troops throughout the Home Islands without having to change their HQ assignment and pick them up by sea...
Thanks!

In lieu of an official answer.
I didnt think you could move between Honshu & Hokkaido.
You can between the other islands and Honshu.

I began with Andrew's map system - but modified the Honshu Hokkaido connection to represent what I call a "low capacity ferry" (= trail).
This was not there in the CHS map system - but you can put it there using pwhex. Playtesters never have complained about this particular connection - and it is true - there was a ferry service. That also means resources and oil move in significant quantities as needed.
Today there is a RR tunnel - the longest in the world - between the two islands. 110 km long.

The tunnel is the longest in the world, however, it is about half the length in your post. The following is from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seikan_Tunnel
The Seikan Tunnel (青函トンネル Seikan Tonneru or 青函隧道 Seikan Zuidō) is a 53.85 km (33.49 mile) railway tunnel in Japan, with a 23.3 km (14.5 mile) portion under the seabed. It is the longest undersea tunnel in the world, although the channel tunnel between England and France has a longer under-sea portion. It travels beneath the Tsugaru Strait — connecting Aomori Prefecture on the Japanese island of Honshū and the island of Hokkaidō — as part of the Kaikyo Line of Hokkaido Railway Company. Although it is the longest traffic (railway or road) tunnel in the world, faster and cheaper air travel has left the Seikan Tunnel comparatively underused. Its claim to the record will be taken when the Gotthard Base Tunnel, another railroad tunnel, is completed around 2018.

Andrew--Brian says it is a map issue. How did you design that crossing point?

There is no crossing point between Hokkaido and the rest of Japan.

That's right - it is just an ocean hexside, so there is a certain amount of movement of resources between two adjacent ports, but units and other things have to be shipped across by actual transports.

Since all ferries and virtually all coasters are missing - this seems to be an unreasonable handicap. IRL a certain amount of cargo and troops can pass without sending ocean ships to do it. On the other hand, unlimited connection also seems wrong - and these straits have several medium sized ports because there was a lot of ocean shipping used between them - and also between them and more distant ports. A low capacity connection seems like a good compromise - pending a different platform with perhaps enough slots to add the actual small ships.
