Kalinin Russia
December 11 1941
1100 Hours
We expect the Germans to start hitting our defenses at 11 o:clock this morning here at Kalinin. We are about 160 miles NE of Rzhev and maybe the same distance NW of Moscow. Where we are sitting we can not see the Volga but we are very close to the banks of the old lady. We understand and what some of the men have seen while looking for supplies is that the river is frozen solid. It is very cold today the weather has a fine haze about it and visability should be some where arond 750 yards good shooting distance for us.
As always we expect the Germans to come with a hell of a lot of armor. But our tankers are ready to deal death and destruction to our hated enemy. Extra ammo has been issued and our gunners have been told to lay it on thick.
C Co will have our left the northern flank today. They have clear land out in front of them at least 600 yards of open land. B CO has been given the job of holding the center and they have almost the same clear open space in front of them. A small ridge or more of a hump runs about 200 yards North to South in front of them. They sit across a road that runs West to East into enemy territory. The veterans A CO will hold the right flank the southern portion of the map. They have even more open ground in front of them at least 900 yards until it begins to rise into some low hills.
HQ supply was able to send us enough mines to lay one row out in front of B in the middle extending north to the northen most flank of C. Hope they dont make it into the minefield not really enough mines there to actually do a lot of damage. If they make a concentrated run at the fields im sure some of them can make it thru with little damage.
We shall see what happens in just a very short time. We can hear them moving around preparing to get this show on the road. Victory to the Mother land and long may she live.
