Ahoy,
Can anyone tell me what LCI (G)'s are? I have several of them, but can't figure out what i can load on them.
Thanks

They aren't meant to carry loads. The LCI(G) and their rocket-carrying cousins are landing support vessels, meant to bombard enemy coast defences. Unfortunately, they don't work properly. Just leave them in port and try to forget about them.

They're "gunboat" versions of LCIs (landing craft with extra guns, supposed so suppress shore fire while -other- LCIs land troops. The LCI(R) are rocket-armed. LCI(M) have mortars.
Unfortunately, they're broken.
The guns don't fire and they serve only as extra targets for shore batteries (and they don't even carry anything). Best to just collect them all in a little port somewhere and disband them.

Someone recently found a fix for them - I forget the thread - but it involves making some changes in the scenario editor so it would have to be done before the game started.

As I recall, the soft attack value of the rockets are set to 0. Changing it to (whatever) for devices 83, 84, and 85 is supposed to make them work (makes sense).
Actually, the one class that would make for an interesting test is the LCI(M). It has a 4.2" mortar, that is of type "Naval Gun". It's got quantity, ammo, accuracy, penetration, and effect, which is what you need for naval combat. I think I miight have to put a squadron of those things up against some DDs and the watch the fireworks (just to see what happens).

The problem with this series of ships is if you give them usable attack strenghts for shore bombardment, the can be used as lightweight SCTF. I agree there are usless for game purposes in terms of offensive capability, but they do have a good use if fuel is not a problem. You can put them in you AMP TF as cannon fodder. I beleive the AI sees them as landing ships and will pick one of them as a target equally as often as a loaded ship. Ergo, a TF with 5 LCI and 5 LCI(G) has an equal chance of attacking a/c going after the usless gunboats as the troop laden ships. This may be considered gamey by some.

LCIs can't be part of a surface combat or bombardment TF.

True which is just further evidence that they don't work as intended in RL (they should be part of a BOMB TF). BUT... if a SCTF intercepts a TRAN TF with LCI(G) in them, they will fight as surface combatants

Actually, you can do it thru the editor. You just create or re-use/re-assign a starting location for a SC TF, and add them to it. For one of my test sand-boxes, it's just a copy of the tutorial scenario, into which I can add/swap TFs etc. You can't add them to the SC TF once the game has started, but for starters to watch the fireworks, it's easy enough to set up thru the editor.
It's the same sort of thing with the IJN replenishment group for KB in Stock. You can't add TKs to the TF after the fact, but because they begin the game in the TF, the TKs stay in it.

No, their place is in the transport TF. Usually they went in with the landing craft (often preceding the first wave) and delivered fire support from very close ranges.

Where can i find instructions on editing the scenerio? I landed the 1st Mar Div on Shortlands and they got pasted!!!! The LCI(G) crews were there catching some rays the whole time. A few more guns would be nice... In the end, the Devil Dogs held on! Hoo Rah!

I suggest -
Device 83: 5 in Rocket - Anti-Armor = 80; Anti-Soft = 40
Device 84: 4.5 in Rocket - Anti-Armor = 41; Anti-Soft = 38
Device 85: 4.2 in Mortar - Anti-Armor = 50; Anti-Soft = 27
