Losing Security Points

I was surprised to record in my current game that my security points sometimes reduces by a point a turn. Sometimes it happened once a year, sometimes 3 turns in a row. I can't see anything in the rules that says your security points can be reduced. Am I missing something?

Thats normal, I think. If you look in the manual, there is an explanation. I will see if I can find the reference....

If you are being spied upon by a country, of course 99% of times you don't know how many points they are using on you. The best solution would be to counter immediately, even by a single point increase before all of your points are gone...try to improve and get "out of range" so it's the spy points that country loses, not you losing your security. Might happen that next turns that country will invest on spying the technologies of someone else and you're safe again. It's a battle on resources.

I've read 9.1 yet again and I suppose you are right, Lucky1, but I think the rule could have been written with a lot more clarity -
A random number is generated for this combat, based upon the player's Security Assets. This number Random(Attacking Security) is compared to a number equal to Random (50); if the player's number is greater, the opposing player will use one Spy Asset.

Might have been clearer to have added that if you lose this combat you also lose a Security Asset. However, does this mean that, for instance, if you are Germany and WA and SU have spy assets sent against you that at the end of every German turn you will kill two spies (WA and SU) or kill one and lose one Security Asset or lose two Security assets? I might have to run a test game to see if this is true.

I am not sure that when you lose the combat on your turn that you lose the asset.... I think combats are executed on each player's turn and, as such, you stand 4 chances each quarter of losing spies. Will look this up....

I'd like a better explanation. Sometimes security does decrease by one point, although this is not covered in the manual. Only the loss of spy assets is explained, and they are obviously two different things.

Sorry, I had forgotten about this one. Anyhow, I knew that this issue had come up previously. Did a little search and found it. Hope this answers your questions:

FYI the forum seems to offer an incomplete list of topics discussed. That said, if you do a search, old threads that are otherwise not listed are found. So, it is sometimes worth doing a search before posting or if you are thinking of posting.
