Big problems for me

My hard drive died this morning, so I've lost a whole load of stuff
and obviously wont be able to make any new uniforms or fill any requests

fortunately alot of stuff is on my website
but some stuff is lost for good

I'm having to use my daughters pc just to be able to post in here

The good news,

I have already paid for new pc, so will have to wait til thats built and sent to me before I can make anything else
I'll try pop in as much as I can in the meantime.

EDIT - just realised, I've lost my CFL roster that I finally finished yesterday
I had everything in it, weights, heights, college, DOB the lot, taken me a month to conplete
I even had a complete free agents list done taken from CFL.com ...................... man now I'm real Peed off

Been there, done that also. Lost all of the original MaxFB uniforms I made plus all of the logos and templates. I'd like to add the Gene Upshaw patch to the uniforms but I'd have to make all 64+ uniforms. Not to mention the MVP Baseball 2005, NBA Live, NASCAR 2003, GTR2 and rFactor templates, logos and original files that were lost. Maybe now I'll learn to make backups on CDs or DVDs. I have multiple hard drives so I did not loose the game folders themselves since they were on a different drive. With the price of hard drives it might be a good idea to use one as a backup drive. Maybe someone else can learn from our pain.

Sorry to hear about that, Mykal - you may want to try the old freezer trick:

http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/2006/0 ... -data.html

I tried it once and it didn't work for me, but maybe you can get it running long enough to get the irrplaceable files off the hard drive... good luck!

Yer thanks but a few minutes would'nt be anywhere near long enough
I'm already resigned to the fact that the data is lost but it's not bothering me
Most of what I did is already uploaded anyway
What was lost is what I was working on, which will just have to be started again.

The biggest problem is lost stadiums but with a little help from you guys I should be able to recover most of those too.

hey save that Hard drive - all might not be lost... I've had pretty good success digging thru an old HD and finding some gems so keep an open mind, even if the cpu is kaput the data may still be alive.

You've just learned a valuable lesson here that most of us find out the hard way:  always back up your data.  The good news is you might be able to just throw that hard drive in the new pc and get your data off of it.  As long as you're not trying to boot Windows from that drive you should be ok unless the drive is damaged.  Give it a try, it might save you the hassle of having to redo all your work.

I run my own computer repair business and I see this all the time.

I know it may seem like a dumb question but, what exactly is it doing?  (or not doing?)

As Lucas718 said, most of the time the damage is just a small area of the drive and that is usually fixable or at least enough to get some data off.

Shoot us some symptoms we may have a solution.[;)]

no, i learnt that lesson long ago, everything that was complete is safe
what was lost is the stuff I was working on and my cfl roster which I had only just finished and not had chance to backup

with the exception of stadiums in there original form,
which I had packed together ready for storage but not yet got around to doing
but thats to garysorrell (cheers again gary) I should have most of them back again (havnt checked them yet)

I've already checked the drive, with software that I have
it was unable to recover any data as the hard drive is too badly damaged
which is puzzling because it gave me no warning signs at all
one day fine, the next gone,
usually you get a few signs which indicate there is a problem on its way sometime in the near future

Phew, the gods are with me

hard drive is way to damaged to read as a slave
but....................

I found a software package that managed to scan the whole drive
then show me (in demo version) whats on it, I can see everything, even the stuff on the damaged portions

so, when I've the money to pay for the software to get the full version
I should be able to recover everything, so nothing is lost

Now thats certainly put a smile on my face [:D][:D][:D] and [:D]

Hey Mykal,
It must be something going around, my hard drive died last night. [X(] I had just install Civ4 Colonization when it started going downhill. I had a lot of stuff on that drive including my NCAA league (up to week 5!). What software did you use? I hope I can recover some stuff.

Thanks! I bought a new hard drive and was able to access parts of the old one via usb connection. Hopefully the important sections aren't damaged and I'll be able to extract what I need.
And enjoy the new PC!

Hahahahahahahaha

you know what the say, if it can happen, it will
new pc had problems (bashed about in transit I think) so has been returned today
so I'm back on the old one again

the damaged portions of your drive should still be recoverable with stellar pheonix
I can still see all the stuff on my old HD even the damaged sectors, so you shouldnt loose anything

Its very teasing, I can see them but cant exract them til I pay.........
kinda like a donkey with a carrot on a stick [:D]

Well new pc has been returned, so will have to wait for that to come back again
in the meantime I've paid for the recovery software
so I'm picking through the old broken drive bit by bit

Bad news.............. it takes for ever, left the pc on all night and it still wasnt donr

Good news............ it works, recoverd all my lost stadiums and stuff, which is a big relief

still got some way to go before I'm back up and running, kinda 2 steps forward and then one step back
but getting slowly, itching to get back and get started on the BAFL uniforems I started
