Sexy looking game. I do like the look of it.

Only got 5 pages into the first tutorial...it's late and I'm going to bed.

Did I say the reason I bought this game? I woke up this morning and remembered that I had been "dreaming" about playing it...couldn't believe it. Woke up at 5:30 and remembered what my dream was about...attacking the Germans.

That's why I took the plunge.

We'll see. If I was completely honest, I didn't give Korsun Pocket much of a chance. I think, back then, I didn't like the feel...the game system is very much geared around a boardgame look and feel and I didn't play computer games to recreate the boardgame feel...however, since purchasing Memoir '44, my thoughts on that have changed.

I also bought the boxed copy which is very unusual for me...especially when it costs so much (£40). I guess I thought in for a penny, in for a pound. Also, I do want to learn this (at that price I AM going to understand and play it), soI wanted the manual.

Any chance you have a long lost brother somewhere in Texas?? I too bought KP and was so totally turned off by the look and worse, that horrid soundtrack, I never did pick it back up or any other DB game for that matter. A couple of weeks ago I started to re-read Antony Beevor's "Stalingrad" and got a wicked itch for an East Front game. I too am taking the plunge and look forward to your impressions. I also wanted to thank you for your post concerning paying for a single, 16 turn scenario, as the responses (along with your apprehension and seeing the user mods over at SSG's site for other DB games) clarified quite a bit for me. Should you ever want a PBEM, snail paced game, please PM me. Cheers!

That's exactly what we need, more people dreaming about playing the game and then going out and buying it! I wonder if the CIA has some ex-Cold War technology that we could use to implant those thoughts in more gamers' heads?

Anyway, even without the benefit of government mind control machinery, I'm sure you'll enjoy the game.

Strangely enough, I do have a twin brother and his name is Marcus [X(]

As far as I know, though, he lives in Aldershot in England.

And I'm not a big PBEM fan, but I may well take you up on that...if and when I get to any acceptable level of competancy.

Oddly enough Judge, the "boardgame on the computer" feel is exactly why the DB series appeals to me.....

Something that I have found which is beautiful....the music, or at leats some of it. In the tutorial, you have a song playing, and it sounds like it's playing through an old phonograph!It most definitely has a very cool, aged WII feel to it.

Unfortunately, that's the only piece that I've heard that I like...you seem to have given up putting cool WWII olde music in and there is some other nonsense played from time to time.

Because I'm in the tutorial, I don't know if this limitation is in the game...frankly, if you were going to have some music in it but couldn't find/create any other pieces, I'd have more than preferred the piece I'm talking about to be looped.

Is there a way of getting your own music in? I'd quite like to listen to the Panzerlied

I have to go along with the Judge here regarding the "feel" of period music. In many games I turn the music off and play classical music from my own collection.

I often add in the panzer song when I'm commanding a German Panzer force:

WHilst I'm popping in giving impressions, your tutorial desparately needs pictures! This bit

...The Organisational Panel (which appears in the same location as the HQ Operations Panel) supplies the following helpful information...

I have no idea where the HQ Operations Panel is/was displayed and therefore have no clue about what area of the screen the manual is talking about, so I am backtracking through Lesson 1 (which I am still in) to find out where the HQ Operational Panel was displayed.

It's referring to the display area just below the strategic map display, on the upper right hand side of the screen. I agree that some piccies would have been nice in the tutorial.

Is there a way of getting your own music in?

Easiest way is to go with Hans' suggestion, switch the in-game music off and play your music from your collection (I use winamp, for instance). You could theoretically convert music to .ogg format and then pop it in the game's music folder but it's a bit of work and it's easier just to use a separate player.

It's strange...they've included a brilliant snippett of what appears to be WWII era songs played over a WWII era phonograph...and then before very long at all, it seems to turn into some sort of techno garbage.

Anyone know any legit places where I can download legit German / Soviet military marching music?

Funny how musical taste varies from person to person. I find it one of the most interesting and enjoyable game sounds tracks I've seen over the years. It's a great game too. [:)] Drop me a line Judge if you want a PBEM someday.

While not a war movie theme, one of my favorites to play while gaming is Hans Zimmer's sountrack to the movie Gladiator. After seeing that for the first time I almost immediately went out and purchased the sound track. It was the first time in my life I was so moved by the music in a movie that I bought a soundtrack. I then started taking notice of how many great movie soundtracks Zimmer was responsible for. His work is outstanding.

Hans, I was moved by Lisa Gerrard's contribution to the Gladiator soundtrack ( being a crufty Dead Can Dance fan from the 80's and all..) - and certainly an excellent soundtrack all round.

I'm glad that you like it. I downloaded most of the songs and burned a CD. Now I can take them with me!
