Please tell me "Display Resolution: 1024x768" doesn't mean only 1024x768?!

Yep, same engine and resolution as in CEAW. Of course, it runs in all resolutions but depending on your screen and display driver settings it may look a bit stretched for larger screens. However, there is also a windowed mode.

Is there an easy way to play the game so it doesn't stretch on wide-screen monitors? Windowed mode is not a good option because of the high resolution my monitor is set to, and I don't really want to change my resolution as this will impact on my icons etc.

Really, i CANNOT understand how a game Developer can publish a NEW game in 2008/2009 with just one fixed (and so low) resolution setting… [&:]
Nowadays everybody has LCD’s and widescreens with all kind of different resolutions…
Regular tube monitors could use several resolutions with no image quality loss. LCD’s (what 90%+ people use) don’t.
Multiple resolutions should be mandatory on any new game.
I can understand playing on a window when using dosbox for playing a 10 years old game.
In a new, FULL PRICE game is inexcusable, IMHO. [:-]

Inexcusable but luckily, pretty easy to fix. Anyway congrats to the DEVs and to the Publishers...I am sure this game will be a success.

Hi, you can set your monitor or either graphic cards driver keep aspect ratios properly.

Yes, see here for an example of driver settings to avoid aspect ratio stretching:

Yes. For any other game this seems to work. I use the 'Use NVidia scaling keeping aspect ratio' setting and this usually keeps the aspect ratio correct. But no so with this game. This game some-how works out the ratio of your screen then forces the game to that ratio.
Next I tried the 'Do not scale' setting as per Eric's link. The program kept the 768 height but STILL stretched the aspect ratio to look like a scaled down version of the default.
If this is easy to fix, then can someone please share the info. The suggested settings in this post don't seem to do anything. I agree with Arsan that a game built for 2008 should have a way of coping with resolution better than this does. Even pre-widescreen games play better because they keep the aspect ratio with the NVidia settings.
I'm sorry that I have come across so negatively because I usually enjoy Matrix games and have also had a lot of fun over the years playing Slitherine games such as Gates of Troy. But at this point I really am feeling that for $60 Australian I have been ripped off. The aspect scaling is bluring the imagery to a point it is distracting. I don't know what the game-play is like yet because after two turns it was simply painful to watch (like reading with your eyes out of focus).
I really hope this can be solved.

Das123,
Why not just play in Windowed mode then?

My computer is set to 1920 x 1200 so when it is in windowed mode it just sits in the top left quarter of my screen where it can't be moved. Because of the resolution everything is much smaller and so harder to read. The other programs around it are distracting as well and I much prefer to emerse myself in games and allow the black bands left and right to cover the left over space when playing old games that don't support wide screen.
The next solution is to play windowed mode but to change my resolution each time I play to 1280 x 800. I really don't want this to be the answer because each time I do this all my icons and desktop re-shuffles itself.
At the end of the day, if there isn't a simple solution to this I'll just write it off as a bad choice on my part. I was interested by the ratings for the previous game and I enjoy this era so I thought it would be a good buy. I had a lot of trouble making the purchase initially as it wouldn't take PayPal and then wouldn't download so my frustration levels were already fairly unforgiving when I started the game. Lesson learned about being an early adopter I suppose.

I'd even be happy if the game was inside an actual window with borders that could be minimised etc and moved around the screen.

Das123,
I understand your frustration, though I'm surprised that it's not resizing clearly for you. I don't know why the driver aspect settings don't allow it to be unstretched on your display, since that has worked on other systems. I assume your display may be different from the rest. I run CNAW on a 1680x1050 monitor with those driver settings without a problem. I'd suggest giving them another look and seeing if there's any combination of monitor and driver settings you may have missed.

- Erik

If it helps, I'm using an nVidia 9800 video card on a BenQ G2400 monitor.
Hopefully this will be fixed in a future patch at some point. I play a lot of games from modern releases through to games built in the 90's and don't have this problem with any of them. In one of the reviews I read the reviewer thought the simple system selection of Low or High was a selling point, but personally I would love to be able to select resolution setting from within the game.
