No option to continue, either in one of the short scenarios or the full 05/42 - 12/43 campaign.
As for ending historically, the majority of the AARs I've read indicate the allies build up such an overwhelming superiority in men and machines that by the end of the long campaign a draw would be considered a Japanese victory of sorts. I suppose WitP would be similar.

UV is much more focused because of the smaller area and timeframe. In Witp you have to manage the whole pacific war from 1941 on, it takes about 2000-3000 hours to play a complete game! It can take weeks even months (real time) to carry out operations, still there is nothing else like it. I got rid of cable TV two months after I got WITP and never went back,![:)] As I understand it, WITP will be required to install the up comming WITP AE edition. UV is cheaper but you get more bang for your buck with WTIP, plus a full function editor and some great mods like CHS.

I love UV and have been thinking about taking the plunge as far as WITP goes.
I keep reading "micromanaging" and the like and have been wondering how much different WITP is than UV as far as managing land based units?
Since I only play against the AI will it be challenging enough to keep me looking forward to another day of gameplay?
Thanks!
Whoops thought this was the WITP area....Sorry[;)]

I've been playing a solitaire WitP learning game off and on between UV PBEM turns for a couple of moinths now. The game is not really very different, just huge.
There are many improvements in control, but more so for ships and planes than land units. The land combat model is still very weak on large land masses as it was originally designed to portray battlles over bases.
The most daunting thing is the sheer scale. Some evenings after work by the time I have finished my UV PBEM turns I sigh at the magnitude of the task of firing up a WitP turn and other nights I just dive right in. It all comes down to how much mental energy I have to tackle the task with.
I played about a week and a half's worth of turns last weekend as I focused on almost nothing else the whole weekend. It was fun.

Same here. Sometimes I can just dive right in on WitP, sometimes the scale makes me hesitate. Then I remember the longer I wait the more I forget what was happening or I was planning.

I've had UV since it came out and WITP for a little more than a year or so. I'm soured on the lack of control in UV that WITP offers. Due to the smaller scale of UV I find my option very limited as far as how to accomplish what as my opponent knows where I'm going to have to hit. WITP is daunting, but UV helped me because after playing the one you have a grasp of the other. I enjoy playing the small scenarios in WITP more than UV now and I'm waiting for AE to be released before I start a new game.
