World War II Train Simulators

I basically like the idea of railroad simulators as I watched a friend of mine demonstrate the pc game game TRAINZ, but while I found it interesting enough, what I really would like is a simulator using WWII as the backdrop...perhaps a simulator where you would need to transport munitions/troops to the front lines, or establishing supply routes, all the while avoiding air raids, sabotage, etc., as you maintain a schedule...I did a search but basically came up empty, so does anyone here know if such an animal exists?

One of the Railroad Tycoons covered the WW2 era. I think it was the 2nd one. Published by Microprose if my memory serves me right.
But it was not as detailed as you want. I never played that particular version, so I cannot tell you what it was all about etc.

There's Microsoft Train Simulator who had a WW2 type train running on steam engines. I think the train was called Scotsman or something similar. You used to shovel coal, monitor pressure levels, turn cranks, flood the tank with water (was the funniest since the train literally died), had to maintain a certain temperature in the oven and so on, really challenging and rewarding also. It was a lot of fun. Can't manage to run it on vista sadly. Oh, and there were missions in which you needed to deliver goods and cargo on schedual, no munitions though

True, however it WILL run on Vista. What you need to do is look at the UK Trainsim site. They have a huge group of modders there and you will find routes in UK going back to the early days of Rail. They also have a Massive stock of WW2 era locos and rolling stock available, all free. The also make their own community DVD's and CD of routes activiteis and rolling stock in one easy to install package for less than £5.
The forum is also very lively.check it out at

tbh, I'd rather sandpaper my nuts and dip them in a bowl of vinegar than try and find some enjoyment in a train simulator. [:D]
And there ends my great contribution to this debate [;)]

Thanks, but there does not appear to be much out there, and I thank the poster who steered me to Tycoon 2...I think I'll just watch the movie The Train, and live vicariously through Burt Lancaster....
