Research?

I might be wrong, but was research really that significant in the Napoleonic era? This seems
to be a bit of chrome imported from the WWII era games that doesn't seem appropriate
to this time period. Just my humble thought.

Its called 'research' in the game, but a lot of look like it really represents tactical or operational refinements. And that did change did the period. I dont believe it represents actually producing 'better' muskets or cannon but more along the lines of better organization and employment of what you already know.

Well, there was quite a bit of tactical/operational/strategic evolution during the Napoleonic period. The research really represents that and the fact that France initially had a bit of a leg up on the other nations.

Wouldn't that be more accurately modeled as experience? I doubt that French 'scientists' were experimenting with
different Infantry formations.
