New to CoG & FoF

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

New to CoG & FoF

Post by BodyBag »

Hi all

I bought CoG when it was first published, but was put off by the bland graphics and a lot of unexplained game-mechanics. You never felt that you knew what was going on, or what the consequenses (if any) of your actions was on the strategic level.
I know it became better after patches and a lot of forum-support, but it was to late for me, - I moved on.

Purely by accident I saw some info about CoG EE, and being a Napoleonic-freak, I had to be in the know. It seemed that after maturing for 3 years patch-wise and getting a graphic make-over, CoG could be coming to life after flat-lining for 3 years [:)]

Anyway, in my search I discovered FoF and read a lot of good things about it. Against my better judgement, (I have never been an ACW-buff) I bought Forge of Freedom. That game is so much more polished and complete than CoG, that you think that CoG was only the first draft of a brilliant game-engine!

If you can bring the same (or better) elegant system and graphics from FoF into CoG EE, I will surely give the game another try.

Cheers,

Hi BodyBag--thanks for the comments. We have in fact implemented some of the FOF code into COG:EE, so you'll be seeing some familiar information overlays, for one thing. We've also made some changes to the detailed combat that we think will prove popular.

Our new map graphics are viewable on the AAR that has been posted to this subforum, so please feel free to have a look at them. Those are beta graphics, but the finished product will look very similar.

As for the strategic level, we've introduced some other ideas from FOF, in particular the idea of greater player control over game options. This especially applies to the economy--we think we've provided a good option for those players who may not have found the COG economy to their liking. We do know that other fans enjoyed the old economic rules, so those will be available as well. You'll see all of this and more once we release. Again, in the meantime, please feel free to read through the AAR for more details on how the game is shaping up.

We hope you'll give COG:EE a spin once we make it available. We've paid a lot of attention to fan input, and hope that our final product will be as good as it could possibly be. Keep your eyes open for more information soon, thanks.
