Help with Talonsoft's West Front

Its the original version of the game, not the John Tiller's Campaign version. The game runs on vista , all the title screens and menus work fine, but then when I try to start a game of anytype I get a message like this, anyone know how to fix it?

I suggest you to download dosbox (it's free) and play all your dos wargames with this program.
There are no problems with windows XP, so maybe it will work with vista.

Don't forget to patch your Talonsoft installation to the latest West Front version - which I believe was 1.05. (1.06 was not an official update)
If you do happen to get it working, you may run into the armour fire values all being reduced to 0. That is a notorious issue when running the Talonsoft versions on Vista.
Of course, if you are playing strictly infantry battles, this shouldn't be a major issue.

I could be mistaken but I think Talonsoft's WF ran on Windows 95. I don't believe it will run on dosbox which I have used for other (& older) games. But this wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong. [8|]

for some reason I cant get on The Blitz it just says it cant display the web page, do the patches work on the original talonsolft version to? I dont have John Tiller's Campaign series version.

You can find the Talonsoft patches on the Blitz website in their downloads section.
The MCS updates will NOT work with the Talonsoft version.

I think you have to join the blitz to download from there.
wargamer.com has a section called Patches and Scrolls (or a link to it) that should have what you want also.
If you have the money, you are much better off to get the Matrix set.

The Talonsoft games are old. There is a lot of old software that will not work with Vista. I did not have problems using them with XP. How about trying to emulate XP or one of the earlier windows versions. Then they might work.

ok never mind that I manualy unziped it and put it in the file and the game works now, and now I just need to figure out the controls.

I have the Eastfront and Westfront (Talonsoft version)
For the John triller's campagn series , there is new a last patch.
1° Which are the improvements made to this version compared to the Talonsoft version?
2° Can we use this patch to improve my game?

Unfortunately no, although you might be able to use some of the graphics, the exe's are different, as well as the platoon coding in the platoon.oob files.
