Kamikaze? / Okha?

Hi,

As I am approaching that point in several games I would like to know the pros and cons of using Kamikaze groups and Okha.

Looking through the manual you find an information when and how many, but that is all.
Anyone can tell how Kamikaze groups work? Do you change the whole air group into Kamikaze - for instance 48 Ki-23. Now, is there a difference whether I changed Ki-23 or Ki-84 or Sally into Kamikaze? What is the hitting power of it - does it vary and depend on the plane group you are using? Noone returns from Kamikaze mission?
There will be more questions, but these are just those I can think of now.

and a few words about Okha plz.

Thank you

The first thing I realized is fighter-types will not work in a special-attack role, because (due to a Pacwar feature/bug) they will jettison their ordinance and engage enemy fighters if present (and they generally are after Jan 44).  So you need Dive Bombers, Torpedo bombers, or Tac Bombers for SA missions.  I recommend the D4Y and the Ki-32 as the best choices.  Vals and Kates are fine, Tac bombers are just ok (G4Ms should be reserved for Okha duty) - although any non-fighter will do.

Cheers, Skipjack

and a few words about Okha plz.

Okhas essentially function as stand-off cruise missiles. The real advantage is that the G4M's using Okhas do not have to brave the target TF's flak, which from 1944 on can be devastating. IRL the Ohka pilots are lost, but in game terms your aircraft assets mostly live to fight another day. Mostly, because the G4M's still have to worry about CAP when attacking carrier TF's. For this reason it is wise to maintain a few squadrons of the long-range A6M2 Zeroes, and not allow them to upgrade.

now if we are talking long-range escort - isn't it better to have Ki-43-II in that role?

In my experience NO because Army and Navy ac do not work good together, meaning your G4 will fly without fighter support.

In the game G4 will attack first and get killed, then the Ki will attack :(
