Beating up on your Opponent

PC has a small very fixable problem.

The end of game display page needs more stats on it.

For this game series to be as successful as those that it follows there needs to be more information in the end of game display.

The reason that's so important is for such things as tournament play and ladder play.

I run a few CM tournaments. I like to think they are well received in the CM community and that I could get the same or similar results using PC. I've looked at the end of game page several times but just don't like the fact that it's only geared to the campaign aspect of the game.

I wouldn't care if it can display a wider range of stats on that page if it were available by asking for them.

This would also be a huge help to scenario designers. It would show you WHERE the scenario favors a particular side.

I'd like to see the point value for things like:

* the value of the objectives controlled at the end of the game
* leaders killed or wounded during the game
* men killed or wounded during the game
* vehicles destroyed, immoblized or damaged during the game

I want all of this BEFORE the computer resets the TO&E for the follow up game in the campaign. Not all games are being played as part of a campaign.

Is something like this possible?

It would kill several birds with one stone.

On top of which, I think gamers are numbers people to begin with. We LIKE seeing the numbers broken down for us. I LIKE seeing how much of the enemy force I damaged or how much of mine was affected by the enemy.

And while I'm not much of a Ladder player, there are lots of gamers that like to play on the Ladders. (Never understood it much myself..you just go up or down in a straight line....) The ability to get a more detailed scoring result, especially in terms of percentage would greatly enhance their ability to create Ladders for PC.

If this is not a huge project it would be great to get a patch for this. IMO, this single change alone will make a BIG difference in how PC can be used by the community.

Good Hunting.

Very useful, expecially for tournament.
Great idea!

I agree completely with this as well.

I helped with testing an ACW game a while back, a feature of which was the ability to generate a results file at the end of a scenario. That file then became the basis for follow-up engagements between forces. I'm not sure that's the sort of thing that MR is suggesting, but experience leads me to believe that it's certainly doable. If nothing else, the game could generate a text-file and place it in a sub-directory for later viewing. Like MR, I like to analyze the results of the games that I play. Suffice it to say, some games deal with the concern a lot better than others.

The Scenario Editor already has this feature in the Scenario Statistical Report......if this same report could be generated after a game was over it would be GREAT!

Maybe not displayed unless a Gamer asks for it. So as not to automatically display but be available on demand.

Good Hunting.

I've always enjoyed flight-sims that had a campaign-mode which focus on stats, stuff like missions, aircraft/vehicles destroyed, and so on. In fact, I've been playing a CFS3 mod called Over Flanders Fields. Players pick a side, a squadron, rank and nom de guerre. Then you're transferred to an airfield, and set out on your quest for kills (which are typically slow to come), but usually end up simply trying to survive. Anyway, it's a lot of fun, particularly playing online with friends. I'd really like to see some of that sort of flavor incorporated into a game like PzC, one where stats matter, where the CO can lead his band of increasingly veteran subordinates through a "career." Apart from a "Panzer Commander," why not give a guy a name when he earns a medal, CO, or otherwise? I can't help but think that personalizing aspects of a game makes the whole experience richer and more lifelike, qualities that are frequently 100% AWOL in wargames.

Being able to name units in a game instantly changes a player's psychology. It is a means of giving a history to that unit that otherwise isn't there. It sounds goofy but it's true. By going through and naming units - and usually, I think, the trend is to name units after people you know, friends, acquaintances, people you know online, characters in movies or TV or comic books, whatever - all of a sudden these faceless characters have a history. And you start to have an investment in them, and you're not just throwing them into battle. Even if your behaviour only changes in subtle ways, it has still changed, and the gameplay experience has been enhanced. I don't understand why more developers won't understand that.

It got to be annoying in Combat Mission to see the same unit names come up again and again and again, especially when you knew that some beta tester who wasn't even German had had his name squeezed into the data file as a thank you for his work. Having said all that, it should be easy enough to mod data files at the back end, but it would be nice to see games let you do this in a user-friendly way right in the in-game interface, perhaps in the game options menu - i.e. in the controls panel, give you a chance to type in names or review those currently residing in the data file and permanently remove the ones you don't want.

Yes, this is a seemingly minor point, but it has so much capacity to enhance gameplay for such a minor expenditure of effort - your tanks arrive as reinforcements at a critical moment in the game, and you click on their platoon leader and see your best friend's name. What could be more comforting.

If you will take a closer look at that screen shot I posted you will see in the units lists that the commanders of each platoon is named.

That's one of my scenarios I happened to be working on when I took the screen shot.

PCK has the ability to incorporate names for the commander of the unit now.

Good Hunting.

Hmmm, maybe I should make a scenaro surrounding the battle of the Panzer Grenadier Regiment GD. at Krivoj Rog?

What does one have to do with the other?

If you're a fan of Otto-Ernst Remer, go for it. I think he's a colossal moron but as a battalion commander he was at least in his element.
