A 2006 book of this title - by one Tom Womack of Dallas - is being remaindered at Scholars Bookshelf.

It is superb - done to scholarly standards (albiet not in scholarly format - it is paper bound - and pictures and maps are spread throughout instead of in the formal 8 page section of classical scholarly writing). It has details of history, aircraft, organization and the campaign. These are in sufficient form to permit association of aircraft with units - and it accounts for production, attrition due to accidents before the war and other factors permitting exact counts.

I have it and so do some others on the AE team.  It's a great reference.

Whew - the savings is only $5. Like many other, I bought this one the day it came out, at full price. It always hurts to seem them on great sales later.

Dutch Poolster Class should be defined as AVD - it is defined as AGP - but Poolster herself was assigned to GVT-1 as a forward flying boat tender. Her location may also be incorrect - but it was based in the Sinkawang hex (another town) - and was associated with Kuching and the Natuna Islands for forward operations as an SOP. This is class slot 397. Poolster is ship slot 5965.

Arend class - properly defined in class slot 397 - is defined as an AVD - and it had the same function - one ship Rigel being correctly located at Sorong (with planes) - BUT at least as I have the record - the ship name is misspelled as Riger - instead of Rigel. This ship was assigned to GVT-2. Rigel is ship slot 5921.

GVT is the designation of 3 plane flying boat "squadrons" of the Dutch Naval Air Service.

These ship datum points are quite minor and probably inherited from stock or CHS 155.

I am surprised how much was right in the database - for example the leaders were perfectly researched - and most of the units located perfectily within the map scale we have - as indeed were the plane types also perfect. Obviously the Dutch OB has had careful research.

should be Rosier, S.H.

GVT-5 was not on Celebes. It was based in the Anambas Islands - halfway between Great Natuna and Singapore. Since I have Great Natuna as a location - and an AVD now stationed there - I will use that. Stock and CHS probably should use Singapore or Sinkap Island (location slot 566).

GVT-11 and GVT-12 should have 3 aircraft vice 4 aircraft each. The aircraft is correct. These are air group slots 1764 and 1762 respectively.

IF (as in RHS) Dutch cruisers have 4 seaplanes attached - the land based unit GVT-13 should have the other 4 of the type. This is air group slot 1763 and the present total is 3 instead of the 4 it should be.

The cruiser of the WWI class which had a floatplane was Java - not Sumatra. So S2/GVT-13 - air group slot 1767 - should be pointing at Java vice Sumatra. In Scenario 74 (EBO) we don't have Java and Sumatra at all - but they are replaced by two modern CLs - so I gave both a seaplane element - and the former GVT-13 slot becomes S1/GVT-13 - this being 1763. Both cruisers get two aircraft. The cruisers are called Endracht and Kijkduin.

AVD Arend was associated with GVT-17 - so I added [GVG-17] after its name. It was a forward mobile operating point for the unit - which started the war at Amboina - later moving to Java. Arend could have been at several points - but one on the map with supplies more forward than Ambon is Weda - location slot 584.

You'll love AE, it has an AVP designation. A small seaplane tender without all the destroyer attributes.
