I updated to the beta patch and have just started a new game as France vs 6 AI players. Attached is a screenshot of the diplomacy screen. Note that there is no alliance button showing . . . anywhere. I clicked the Next button, thinking it had migrated, but no such luck. I tried selecting all the majors except GB to see if the button appeared, but it did not.

This patch does not appear to be off to a good start. Anyone else see this with this patch?

I believe that as of this patch, the alliance procedure has been changed slightly, so that if you check the alliance box in the diplomacy settings screen, it automatically requests an alliance. That is, there's no longer any distinction between being willing to accept an alliance and actively requesting one, so the request alliance button is redundant.

Ndrose is correct. In fact, the alliance button is missing as of 1.04.05.

That is correct. Simply goto the diplomacy screen and you should notice that the accept alliance check boxes are now also the "Request  / Accept " alliances. Not you can simply accept and/or accept alliances from the same area. A little more intuitive, no?
