Serve no wine before it's time

Boy am I going to get flamed for this, but gang it is time to "do it or get off the pot". We are almost a year since this product was in it's advance stage and we still aren't there. It may be time to open it up to the real testers the public. Nothing is perfect and if it sucks that bad (as is) then bury it (publicly) and work on it for the next 5 years in silence. I have been absolutely hyped to death.
I saw a tee shirt one time where one buzzard said another "Patience my a@@ I want to kill something"
OK bring it on!!

Buck,
I know how you feel. Give them a bit more time, indications are they're getting pretty close (IMO).

I, too was hyped at first, but I am more ambivalent now. If they release it before they are sure that the major bugs are worked out, they stand the risk of having hundreds of us devote an insane amount of time to a single fraction of a game to find out that a given patch is not compatible with our saved game. Now, if they can design it in such away that there is little or no chance of that happening as it did in the first release, they shoud release it now. That way we can discover minor problems which won't serve as a spoiler for the entire experience.
I am also concerned that the doubling of the number of hexes and increasing the number of units may make an already gigantic game to much for most players. I do hope the AI is improved, which in itself will be worth the wait.

Let them take all the time necessary. My PBEM has only reached mid-October of 1943, so I have plenty of time to wait! [:'(]

I have a PBEM in November 44, and one as Japanese in September 42 (That one might get aborted after AE comes out. Neither my opponent nor I are happy with it)

Let them take their time. I want a completed product, not two years of being a Beta Tester. Having to restart every couple of months because a new patch came out to fix a new bug would be worse than waiting for the release.

They're doing weekly builds now, which leaves them with only 10 cycles through the end of the year. Entertaining as it is when tidbits from test runs are posted, in each case I remember someone on the forum pointing out some simple data error in the results posted (wrong load capacity of a ship, things like that). That means that the database values haven't been completely checked, which certainly will take a month or two in game testing alone. Add to that they aren't even done with the game mechanics, which, if changed, always require a whole new set of test runs (at least 2 cycles for a major change, since you'd probably have to run it through 1945, I'd guess), and it's quite plainly obvious that this is NOT going to be a 2008 release. Maybe the intent was to cash in on Christmas, but that's not gonna happen, since they will also need to revise the manual for each change they're still making and Matrix will need to put everything into a neat package with beginning titles and theme music and nice packaging. This is gonna come out sometime in late Spring of 2009.
That's what I gleaned from the comments posted by team members. All credit to them, they are doing a great job that I certainly will benefit from by getting a really cool and awesome game. It's just NOT gonna be in 2008. And if it were (for that Christmas cash reason), that would make the release such a rush job that it would be wise to wait until Spring 2009 until the first patch comes out that will make that game playable.
I'll check back in March. Much success to the team!

You guys will all thank us for taking the extra time to get it right once you finally get your hands on this. WITP holds a special place in our history as a company and we want to make sure that the Admiral's Edition makes WITP players ecstatic.
All the extra time has been filled with design and development making improvements, many many testing iterations for bugs and balance and just tons of extra work by the team on everything from data and scenarios to graphics and combat reports.
This is a release that will truly bring your WITP experience to the next level, whether you play vs. AI or via PBEM.
Regards,
- Erik

I say get it right and take your time. Nothing ruins something more than a crappy bug that forces you to stop playing and wait for a fix. Gamers always complain about crappy games that are released half assed like some of the Paradox titles that require a patch to even be playable.
Witp and the Panther Games are the best thing Matrix has going for it. Not to derail, but a lot of Matrix's other games have been really buggy, third rate junk. Those buggy games have impacted my opinion of Matrix, to be honest. But what I originally based my high opinion of Matrix on was the HTTR and UCV/Witp series...so yeah...take your time. Impress us and win back some reputation points.
