I have read the Appendix in FoF on page 160 (A.4.2 Supply Costs) and am a bit cionfused. [&:]

Unit Costs:
Cost when not in a fort: 2
Added cost for brigades not in any military group or city/fort: 1

Q: Are these costs cumulative?
Q: Does a unit in a city cost 2 supply points because its not in a fort?
Q: Do units in "containers" cost supply points? If so how much? Does a container in a city or fort negate that cost?
Q: Do units that "auto join" containers move by rail or do they use up money / supply?

signed,
confused... [&:]

The two sentences immediately preceding table A.4.2 in the manual read:  "IMPORTANT: Units inside of cities or forts do not consume any supply.  For units outside cities and forts, the amount of Supply that a unit will spend—its supply cost—is as follows."  These sentences hold, so units in cities do not expend 2 supply.

Units in military groups consume a base 2 supply points.  If the group has a Terrible logistical staff rating, then the cost is 3.  If the group has a Good or better logistical staff, then the base cost is 1.  If a brigade is not in a military group, nor in a fort, nor in a city, then the base cost is 3.

Auto-join units do not automatically use rail movement.

The use of supply does not in itself cost money, although resupplying units does (unless foraging).
