another test run

trying to set up a PBEM game with one of my newer testers, so, getting in some pratice early
naw, looking to see how the new fuel numbers/range work in BoB (most of my other tests were with BTR)
with the new fuel/range stuff, the attacker wants to plot his raids, using the delay feature (before what was happening, we had a set range for the fighter, but by putting the unit on delay, they could fly father then they should of, now what happens, by setting the delay, you get as deep as the plane can go, which is pretty close to what the plane can do, if flown on a sweep, so, max sweep range and max escourt range work out pretty close
of course, there is other stuff I am looking at, but this is the one I was going to say, I was testing
so in that case, this is the one day campaign, the opening turn in BoB, and is basicly a beginner/learning campaign
for this one, you need air to air kills, air to ground kills, and or to damage Primary AFs (for the LW) for the RAF, you score points for LW planes shot down (of course for this one, LW planes are worth more)
my raids for the test

which one of the ideas for this run, is a long day, missions taking all day
good part is it wears out the RAF, gives a chance for lots of combats, and in the end, combats with tired pilots
bad part is, depending, the RAF has mass more planes into the battle area then you can, and, lots of combats, and your pilots are going to be tired also, and, the RAF does not have to contest every raid, so you don't know if a Heavy escourted raid, is going to draw up planes, or if the light one will
opening moves, first raid is lifting off, and the RAF is massing

and what it looks like on the map

ahhh, first pass, the spits got 3 111's
of course, what that means is those spits are under my 109s, so soon, it going to get interesting, the 109s are going to come down, the spits are going to go up, the Canes are going to hover around and pick on what they can catch
the joys of air to air combat

in last shot, forgot to mention the 2nd raid following on
the battle has begun
7 111s have been shot down, and 3 109s
the RM is going to be upset with his fighter boys, so far I am !

well, first raids didn't work out too well, but combat is takable
even worse, most of the good damage was from missing my targets
but next stage of the plan is beginning

the 3rd, 4th and 5th raid are doing damage, and hurting the RAF
(which is what I expect, but really am happy with how it is working out, need to see if I can get the scoreing changed, the AI is doing good, just the scoreing is not reflecting it)
of course, the main raids have not taken off yet

not too bad, knew the score wouldn't work the way I would like, the LW did damage to the Airfields, but nothing that would of had any real effect on the battle, so shouldn't of won a lopsided victory
in the long run, the losses are much more importent, and I am happy with them being close, other runs, I would of slaughtered the RAF
very happy with the number of missions flown, the AI reacted well, and towards the end of the day, as the front line squadrons were getting damaged and low on planes, 12 Group started sending down planes, and then 12 Group reacted and defended there own airspace

overall, a good run, nothing bad happened, and nothing bad that I didn't show
so I am happy with that test

Sarge, these are the things that we like to see. It fills us with hope. I know you get a lot of flak (yuk, yuk) for not saying when the game is coming out but if you can just show us things like this it re-assures us that people are working on it. That's all I want (beside the game itself[:D]).
Keep up the good work!
Greg

Thanks for posting the dry runs. Looking Good! You do know that Christmas is right around the corner don't you? Care to update on what areas you want to improve prior to release? Oh, and did I mention Christmas is almost here?

Looks like you're nearly there.....
Re nationality,
Is it based on the Squadron or by individual pilot. I notice a few Pilots,Stan Skalski a Pole & Colin Gray an Enzed, in RAF Sqns, are noted as British.

Nation is based on Squadron flown with, so yes, a Englishman flying in a Polish squadron, will be listed as Polish, a Pole, flying with a English Squadron, would show as English

sure, which as I said, I am no longer sure what I should be saying or showing, I don't want to be repeating things, but will try and show off some of what ever I am doing

May I humbly report a typo:"UnterFeldwebel" should be "Unterfeldwebel"

hmmm, even better, that is not the correct rank either, it should be Unteroffizier
bad part is not something I can correct, but will check with the code man

Well, "Unterfeldwebel" DID exist back then, but to my knowledge it wasn't used very often, so it might be an even rarer rank for flying personnel.

Correct. The "Unteroffizier" is the next lowest rank, right below "Unterfeldwebel". But, afaik, from 1936 onwards, Unterfeldwebel was usually skipped in most (if not all) cases, in the "Heer" (Army) and the "Luftwaffe" (Airforce). That means Unteroffiziere used to be promoted to "Feldwebel" right away, mostly.
The only exception used to rest with the officer cadets, they used to hold the "Unterfeldwebel" rank (although designated "Fähnrich" - in these cases) before they had finished their CO education/training along with the final CO exam, whereby then the successful cadets were promoted to Leutnant.
Many sources don't even list "Unterfeldwebel" as Luftwaffe rank, just as Army rank, or rank within Flak-units (designated Unterwachtmeister?).
