A question from a Turn Based Guy...

The subject intriques me...
The layers of strategic gameplay intriques me...
The graphics and counters intriques me....
Real Time play bothers the %&#@ out of me....

OK, I'm a turn based guy who usually shies away from real time games. The problem is strictly my own as I get frustrated at a game that becomes a clickfest, and I'm forgetting to do things on a fly as the AI whoops my butt....I have no criticisms of the genre' as I have stated, the problem lies within me and my lack of patience...

Can someone school me on the "real time" aspects of this game? For example, can you pause and issue orders and then let it play out and is counter density high to make the game difficult for a dullard like me? In other words, is the real time gameplay managable or does it become a "clickfest"?

If someone has the time to detail how a "real time" turn plays out, it would be much appreciated....thanks in advance....

You can't issue orders while paused (which I miss...)
But you can turn down the speed so much that the action becomes quite manageable - well, mostly manageable, at least.
There are still situations where I miss a golden opportunity or my soldiers really mess up because I am simply not fast enough with the orders.
Not sure what you mean by "counter density", but while I am dissapointed that you can't issue orders while paused, it must be said, that this is NOT a click-fest RTS.
You'll be doing a lot more thinking than clicking - and the more thinking you do, the less clicking you have to do.

But God d...it, I hope orders while paused gets added in a patch.
Would help attract more people from the turnbased crowd too...

there is in all CC series in options, GAME SPEED.

It can play at about 1/2 speed or slower, gives you time to think, move at ordely pace, but god for a real time player its frustrating as hell.

one thing i like with 56k modem days was a slightly slower game,(Not choppy/laggy)if a 15 minute timed game took 20 minutes it was perfect speed for me on big maps. sometimes simutanous attacks, combining armour, infantry and morters at once is daunting, but once u practice attacks, form a basic plan, its easy, only takes 10 or so years, and it can be done in your sleep...then ur a CC Junkie...

A nice feature for when things do get hairy is the zoom out option.
This allows you to see the entire map and all of your troops and the opponents troops "If they are within sight"

hey falcon,

i my self am a turnbased fan as well, but i must say since i have played and still do play cc-cross of iron, i am totally into it and cc-war is just as awesome of a game. it surely is no click fest as soooo many other real-timers out there. it will give you enough time at any rate and speed (but after a wile you will automatically switch to medium or fast, cuz its just too darn slow in slow setting) to give orders and still have enough of an overview and enjoyment of the carnage. and since you have already displayed interest in this game you might as well buy it anyhow, i know you want to [;)].

immer weiter,

Same here, I don't play ANY real-time game except CC (all of them, starting 96 !)!
As others said, low unit count (max 15) and speed choice (I Play at "medium") makes the whole thing manageable even for old grognards who got flu at Austerlitz [:D]

Yeah, what they said..lol. This game really doesn't feel like an RTS when your playing it. It's not like your creating  new units all the time like a traditional RTS...it's more chess like in it's pace, you move the pieces you have(they don't zip across the battlefield it's a leisurely pace). If you can't keep up with the pace of this game you need to get your pulse checked because you may be dead.

The point of the CC series is not to be be turn-based.  Real time tactical combat where you can't keep up with everything all the time, more of a simulation of real tactical combat--more real battle confusion and adrenaline.  Speed chess on crack.  Check with your doctor before playing h2h.
