Atlantic wall breached in 42

Hi,

Been enjoying WIR playing as Axis side.

One question - In the spring of 42, I'm facing an allied invasion. Seems to happen every game I play. I have numerical superiority in forces on the West wall and OKW.

Upshot is that my forces are decimated, and by summer 43 the allies role into Aachen! Is something wrong?

Is this a beefed up Dieppe invasion or somesuch?

Cheers

Is Patton good or what?...Did you try to move your West Front HQ, if you do the front seams to do that.

Those HQs are no longer movable in the latest versions.

Check replacement levels, and what are the values for your strength and Allied strength that is shown when you select the West Front HQ?

Thanks Ed and 'Die Kriegerin'

My Western Front force varies between 3500 and 4700, plenty of aircover, although making use of Italian products, with some 190A's and 109G's thrown in for air superiority.

Allied forces are at appx. 2000 and rising, slowly. All of a sudden - allied beachead in Normandy - my force reduce to 400-500 in one turn and Patton et al. on their way to Aachen!

I'm dealing with a collapse of my Centre Army Group three hexes from Moscow (I think it's recoverable - good line of defence three / four hexes behind the front). I'm one hex from Stalingrad and have the 18th Army in Leningrad holding firm.

North Africa seems solid - 4500 axis versus appx 2000 allied.

I've never seen a West Front collapse so soon. The only thing I can think of is you don't have enough armor there to meet the Elite SS requirement, and this halved your points. The Allied strength jumps from 0 to 2000 from '41 to '42 pluse +1000 bonus for clear weatherr. How many tank battalions/tank divisions did you have in the West Front prior to collapse?

Note: aircover is not relevent, aircraft are woirth 1 point each and added up that way along with the tanks. The game currently does not distiguish between German and Italian forces.

Numbers game

Ed, Thanks for the think through and advice...

I have (had) three Pz Div, three motorized, one SS Pzg and over a dozen inf / art etc.

Intersting to know about differentiation between Italian and German airforces - i.e., none.

What are the 'elite SS reqs'?

Perhaps I'm approaching the game with a wish that the AI / historical reality is fully accurate. Of course, it isn't. It's a game after all.

Have started a new session and all seems to be going well as as 05/42.

cheers

The SS requirement is shown at the end of the manual in the Formulas Appendix. Arnaud says though that the game is actually looking at the number of tank battalions in the Front, regardless of whether they're SS or not. I don't have this problem mainly because I play my own scenario (To The Death) where the West Front is disabled.

Would you say something more about your scenario ? Do you mind making it public ?

I never remove units from the west front or Italian fronts- no matter the situation- it seems to work fine.

You can get it here:

http://pages.xtn.net/~ecogburn/wirhack.zip

It is a combination of a new scenario with a program that can make certain hacks in the game program itself, WIR.EXE, such as disabling the West Front, along with another half-dozen changes.
