The paranoid Tsar

Playing against the dreaded Lascar the Tsar suddenly became quite sick of worry when seeing Helsinki defecting to Germany.

Frank - have you made some change with 1.25 we haven't heard about???

Greetings

A deeply worried Tsar [:(]

Hmm can help stop thinking about a top secret German base - everybody knows there are bound to be top secret German facilities all around the world [8D]

Perhaps a cloning attack á lá Sky Captain awaits Petrograd with zzzzzounds of Zeppelins darkening the sun [:D]

Looks like Hanko naval base. The Russians demanded Finland to lease it to them... in the winter war IIRC.
Also today I saw a WWI map and it had German troops in southern Finland. In late 1918.

Actually it looks like they landed there in 1918 to support General Mannerheim and the independence of Finland.

I would assume that hex was CP in 1.24 as well?

In 1.24 that hex would change sides without obvious cause Rus>Ger>Rus>Ger.

Which brings up a stupid question that has been hiding in the back of my mind: why are there hexes in Denmark?

Because there was going to be a scenario on the Schleswig-Holstein question? [:)] Nope, no reason at all

Next impulse Russia security forces apparently had subdued German agents bringing the hex firmly back in Russian control?

Which I as a Dane born in the then occupied part of Denmark would highly appreciate [8D]

Stupid questions:
Can the Germans land in Helsinki to march on Lenningrad...(oops, East Front WWII thinking) St Petersburg from the North?
By controlling the Baltic Sea, do the Germans get trade from Sweden?

Yes you can trade via the Baltic.
You can amphib into Russia, but not Finland. You can only amphib into ports. And it won't work if the enemy has capitol ships (cruiser or bigger) in that harbour.

Kind of what I thought since the end of hex line north is consistent east to west (sans Britain, of course).

Hmmmm. Invasion of Britain. Hmmmm. No dreadnoughts in Southampton. Hmmmm. I should consult on this plan with Dr Kevorkian (if non-Americans don't understand the significance of this name, let me know). [8|]

it says here CA count as large vessels

That was a question to which Frank gave a "perhaps will come back later" answer [;)]

In any case start up a game as CP and try an invasion of Petrograd where a PD is based. There is no problem with that.

Although I haven't actually played around with numbers I assume Frank has used the same numerical value assigned to different classes of ships as in determining control of sea areas (DN=10, BC=8, PD=5, CA=3, DD=1).

Which would explain why 4 CA would be required (instead of say 1 DN).

ah okay, so you don't just need capitol ships but you need also a certain amount of combat value. I wasn't aware of this.

Following next impulse the Tsar really got a shock when handed over the message below. Fine that progress is being reported but with the Russian naval base in Petrograd located in precisely Kronstadt the paranoia about German secret super weapons was in the Tsars mind.

A closer look in the combat report showed though that the reference was to a city in Romania [:D]
