A few basic questions...

I have been playing this game for about three years now. I decided yesterday to start modifying some of the scenarios. It seems pretty straightforward, but I had a couple of questions. These refer to modifying the campaign scenarios. I am hoping to have these questions answered without having to wait a hundred turns to get (some) answers.
I would like to make the Japanese forces more "agressive" by attempting to control Noumea, Fiji, Canton, Palmyra, and Midway. I don't want to get bogged down in the minutia of invading DEI, PI, etc. so I will be starting in May 1942.
1) How realistic is it to expect them to go after these bases and take them?
2) If I assign land and air units to take these bases, does the AI automatically assign transports, CVs, etc to accomplish the task?
3) If I assign a particular unit, how do I know where it is coming from?
4) Will assigning units to certain tasks screw up the overall flow of the AI game?
5) I wanted to add a couple of extra CVs and A6M squadrons. Will these automatically show up at the beginning of the scenario or are they limited by production rules?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

1. Good Luck
2. the more specific that you are with the editor the better that the ai seems to respond.
3. I'm not sure i understand this one
4. how can one decide that with this AI? I had not noticed any difference
5. that depends if you are assigning a delay or specific date for arrival. Any ships that you put into the database set to arrive after the start of the scenario will cost build points for Japan. I've not seen any affect of adding new air units. I have increased the number of pilots though to compensate

AI is not up to it unless you create a specific TF and point it at them when the game starts. AI won't persist - either the TF is strong enough - or not - but either way it will leave the area in a few days. See RHSMAIO for a version targeting Noumea and Fiji.
2) If I assign land and air units to take these bases, does the AI automatically assign transports, CVs, etc to accomplish the task?
Nope. You must assign transports at the same location - or they won't load.
3) If I assign a particular unit, how do I know where it is coming from?
Because you put it there. Unless you have a land unit and transport at the same spot - it won't work.
4) Will assigning units to certain tasks screw up the overall flow of the AI game?
Yes and no. But AI is horribly stupid. Wastes 5/6 of the potential of the units. AI is best used for training games.
A possible option is a reduced map set game - using the better AI program available for that.
5) I wanted to add a couple of extra CVs and A6M squadrons. Will these automatically show up at the beginning of the scenario or are they limited by production rules?
You must assign the air unit to the CV. It then appears with the ship, on the same date. Now there is a trick - I have "training CVs" that never appear - and units assigned to them that DO appear: just assign a date to the air unit and it will then appear at the default location (e.g. Tokyo) on that date. But I did that to get carrier trained units that never resize and can go to any ship - a special case.
Any help would be appreciated.
